A/N: Scenes that are in an italic font are flash backs. And I just made up a middle name for Andromeda.
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.

Andromeda had always been the odd one in the family. Even when she was a little girl and didn't really have an opinion about her family's pure-blood mania, she was still a bit strange.
While her sisters Bellatrix and Narcissa played their games, Andromeda would usually just read or quietly play dolls by herself. Unless Bellatrix and Narcissa played something normal like exploding snap, it was usually always something that Andromeda didn't enjoy, such as "Kill the Mudblood" and "Put All the Mudbloods in Azkaban".
Her "strangeness" really started to appear when she was 8-years old, though.
Andromeda was drawing a castle with colored pencils while her mother read a book, her sisters and father in different rooms.
"Mother," she said, putting down the pencil and looking at her mother. Her mother looked up at her. "Why are you and Father against Muggle-borns?'
She thought she heard her mother sigh. "Andromeda, I've told you this before. Mudbloods are different from us, and have mixed blood. When they mate with pure-bloods, their children end up getting a nasty mix of blood."
"But, Mother," Andromeda protested, "It's not the blood that effects how much magic they have; it's just how much they get. There have been Squibs born into families that were pure-blood, yet wizards and witches that have been born to Muggles. How-" but Andromeda got cut off by her fuming Mother.
"ANDROMEDA ATHENA BLACK!" her mother half-yelled, half-screamed. She was standing now. "How DARE you talk such trash in this household, or anywhere! Go STRAIGHT to your room and THINK about what you have said!"
"But, Mother-" Andromeda protested once again, but got cut off again.
"NOW!" her mother screamed.
Andromeda, feeling slightly scared (her mother was a pretty powerful witch), ran up to her room, slamming the door.
Andromeda had tried mentioning her beliefs again, but they always failed. The older she got the more trouble she got into for mentioning them. The only person in her family who seemed to understand was her cousin Sirius.
"I'm so glad somebody in this strange family of mine agrees with me," Sirius told Andromeda.
"I'm glad you agree with me as well. It's comforting to know at least not all of my family is insane," Andromeda replied.
"More like psychotic."
"Well, not the whole family is psychotic. Narcissa seems almost normal."
"Bellatrix surely isn't almost normal. She's worse than psychotic already."
"Definitely."
"It must be terrible having to live with her."
"I find there's more cons than pros."
She really got it when she started dating Ted Tonks, though. As soon as her parents found out, they gave her two weeks to "correct her errors" and if she didn't, they said they would kick her out and burn her off of the family tree.
Well, Andromeda had been just fine with that. She just went upstairs, packed her bags, and left, saying a harsh "good bye" to her parents.
And now she was pregnant with her first child. She never talked to her family anymore (with the exception of Sirius), and she had no regrets about that decision she made when she was 16-years old to leave that insane family of her's.
