Quote of the week: "Everyone's gonna die, it's a natural part of life. But if life has no purpose, you're dead already."- Kiba, Wolf's Rain
A/N: I wrote this a long, long time ago and just dragged it out to light recently from the depths of my computer. I think it was supposed to be longer, but I really don't remember what all I had planned, so… Enjoy!

"Inuyasha, you must leave this village."
"Mother! I can't! This is my home... Here with you. I can't just leave!"
"You must! The villagers distrust me, and therefore, they distrust you. Even more so, being what you are."
"I didn't ask to be this way."
His mother laughed, placing a hand on her son's cheek. The laughing turned into deep, body racking coughs. "I know you didn't. But I wouldn't take it back. You are my pride and joy. That is why you must leave. I can't protect you much longer... my time on this world is growing shorter."
"Don't say that! You still have life left in you. You can live longer, become healthy again; if you only try harder."
"Don't you think I have? Inuyasha. Fate is what it is, and I cannot change that. Neither can you. My time came long ago. I held on for you, to protect you as long as I could."
"Mother..."
"Let me finish what I have to say before I have to leave you. War has erupted all around us. Demons and humans no longer trust each other, if they ever did at all. Your dear father died protecting me, and he left you in my protection, as your brother despised me and any of my children I would bare."
Once again, she erupted into a coughing fit, this time coughing up solid pieces with her blood.
She continued. "Sesshoumaru has disappeared, to who knows where, but I think he seeks the Tessaiga, your father's great sword. You must not let him find it, wherever it rests!"
Inuyasha grasped her hands, as she had closed her eyes.
"Mother... not yet! Please don't leave me now!"
His mother smiled. "As persistent as ever. Inuyasha, I already told you. I must leave. I grow weary. There is one more thing I want to tell you, for when I fall asleep, I fear I may never wake up."
Pain racked her body, and it showed on her face. Her son felt helpless, not being able to do anything for her.
"What is that?"
"Inuyasha, I want you to find love. There is someone for everyone. Yes, even someone for you. I want you to be happy, to go on in life..."
"I can't without you!"
"You can. And you must. If only you try."
"Mother, I will. I'll try."
"If I could just see her... to tell her what a wonderful boy you are, and to be there for her when she bares your children."
"But you can mother! Mother? Are you… ? Mother!"
"I see your father... he's finally come for me. He tells me to say that you've become a fine warrior. Also, to keep an eye on your brother. Coming! Inuyasha... I'll always be here for you, if not in body, then in spirit. Goodbye..."
"Mother!"
He fell over his mother's body, weeping for the mother he had lost, but yet happy that she was suffering no longer. With that in mind, he stood up. Despite his small, childish size, he picked her body up and carried her outside, confronting the surprised villagers. They started a sorrowful wailing, but had he not been there, he was sure they would have destroyed his mother's body, desecrating her grave and destroying her spirit. He walked resolutely out of the village, shocking the villagers, who shouted that he should leave her, so they could give her a proper burial. He snorted and continued his journey, letting the tears fall.
He couldn't trust them; them, or any other humans. No one would be as close to his heart as his mother was. No one. He would make sure of that.
