Snow covers the trees and ground.
A landscape frozen in time. Save for a bus traveling down a wet road on its way three hours south.
On this bus, a lonely girl sits amongst 36 other teenagers and two teachers, waiting for the little red birds to disappear and the voices to quiet themselves. Her name. Is Ivory. Next to her is the closest thing to a friend she's ever had, her little pet mouse -whom was sleeping in his little pouch that she had made. On her other side was a girl with whom she had talked to and go along with but never quite made friends with. Ironically, her name was Ebony. Ivory found this rather amusing but kept it to herself.
She gazed out the window watching the snow frosted trees pass by, silent yet all knowing, as she listened to the sounds of the rhythmic drum beats, piano riffs, and the occasional technological voice repeating something unintelligible, vibrating out of her headphones and into her ears as no more than vibrations being translated into sounds as her brain processed. She turned when she saw a small red blurr dart through the corner of her vision only to perch on her hand. 'Go away' she thought shaking her hand slightly trying to get the small red bird to leave her alone. 'Pest.' It responded by simply moving to perch on top of the seat infront of her chirping softly almost tauntingly at her.
Rolling her eyes Ivory glanced over at Ebony who was laid back headphones in ears with eyes closed ignoring everything around her. Smiling to herself Ivory went back to staring out the window to see the trees becoming fewer and the fields increasing. They too were blanketed in snow with a few deer here and there.
Ivory let out a sigh. 'Two more hours.'
"Hey,"
Ivory looked at the boy who had spoken. He was sitting ahead of her though turned around in his seat with the goofiest smile she had ever seen on his face."Can I help you?" She asked raising a brow at him.
"You're new aren't you...?"
She nearly blanched. "Not since 6th grade."
"Oh. Sorry, it's just I haven't really seen you around before. I'm Ian by the way." She nodded slightly not truly caring. "What's your name?" She paused.
"Ivory." she said quietly.
"Pretty name. Does it mean anything or is it just plain Ivory?"
Ivory shrugged one shoulder not really knowing. She lived with her grandmother since she was about five so she never really remembered her parents much less knew them.
