Marik rolled over, settling his body on top of Bakura's and pulling him close. He leaned forward, wanting to capture his lover's lips in a kiss.

Bakura's hand suddenly shot out and gripped Marik by his shoulder, halting his movement.

"Why do you want me?" asked Bakura.

"What?" asked Marik. Seconds ago, everything had been completely normal, and now he was totally confused and disoriented by Bakura's strange question.

"Why do you want me?" repeated Bakura. "Why would you ever want me, when I'm not even human?"

Marik opened his mouth, then closed it again, as he realized the seriousness of Bakura's question. Time spun out as Marik thought for a moment, unconsciously chewing on his bottom lip as he considered his answer. Finally, he spoke.

"If you really want to know, the reason that I first asked you out is because you remind me of my dog, who is currently dead."

Bakura relaxed underneath him almost imperceptibly.

"Oh, well I can understand that," said Bakura, letting go of his grip on Marik's shoulder. Bakura seemed to consider for a moment, and then continued. "I had a dog once. But I didn't really understand what a 'dog' was. So I didn't know that dogs need to eat. One day, it keeled over. I was afraid that it had died because I never fed it. But then, I found out that it was a robot dog, and that its batteries had just run out."

"That's good," said Marik. He smiled for an instant, but then his look turned grave. "You know...I've often feared that I'm secretly a robot, and that I just don't know it."

"Yes, that's a natural fear that every human is born with," Bakura said knowingly. "Luckily, since I'm not human, I don't have that phobia."

"Then I guess there are some advantages to not being human," said Marik.

"Yes, I suppose there are," said Bakura. As soon as he finished speaking, he pulled Marik's head down and finally allowed the kiss that his lover had wanted.
