Pedestals

Penny always complained about Leonard's tendency to put her on a pedestal. He met her under such odd circumstances. With him having not had much luck in the women department, the beginning of their relationship felt like he had kept her as a novelty item. To him, she was beautiful and precious. Coupled with her recent realization that acting couldn't sustain her forever, she often felt like she was molding herself to fit the image he thought about.

Despite that feeling, she never once doubted his love for her. Deep down, she knows that Leonard loves her for her, not for who he thought she was. After all, if he didn't, he wouldn't have wasted eight years pining over her. Two years was quite acceptable to long for someone you fantasize about but eight years should mean more.

"Penny for your thoughts?"

She looks sideways to glance at her nervous fiancé. His hands are holding onto the steering wheel for dear life, as if his iron grip will help keep everything intact. It's been twenty quiet minutes since he confessed a rather old indiscretion. And for each minute that passed, Penny felt the tension in the car increase. The silence enveloped her like a thick itchy blanket, wrapping her with good intentions using bad material (a metaphor for Leonard and his confession, she's sure of it).

She told him she could look past it, and eighty percent of her knows she can do it. Her love for him is so strong that a little kiss shouldn't have even dented their relationship.

The remaining twenty percent, however, forced Penny to admit that much like Leonard, she had also put him on a pedestal. See, in her mind, there exists only two kinds of guys: guys who have faults, who are assholes, who cheat, who lie, and then there was Leonard, her companion for the past eight years. Despite all their fights and faults, she has always trusted him to remain faithful. The adoration he's had of her from the very moment he met her lulled her into sense of security. He's her safe place. She can't even remember a time wherein she ever doubted him.

Until now, that is.

Penny hates this because all of a sudden, her Leonard, who sat high and mighty away from all the treacherous boys that littered the world, was suddenly a part of that. The prominent line that separated the two kinds of men for her suddenly thinned out until it was practically non-existent for her anymore. She thinks it isn't fair because after all of her issues with committing, the one time she finally wants to jump in heart first is the time he struggles to catch her.

AN: Can you tell it's unfinished? Because I've had this stored in my computer since this finale aired and I forgot to finish it. But I'll just coin it as a drabble and say I think it ends rather nicely. This was just meant to give peek into what Penny might have been thinking at the moment, so I think it's ok that I didn't delve any deeper. I'm not a big fan of what TBBT did or how they handled this particular storyline but at the end of the day, my otp is finally married and who am I to complain? Tell me what your thoughts and leave me a note. :-)
