The rain is pounding. I didn't bring an umbrella though; it seemed unnecessary. Thunder booms.

"Father, what's going on?"

I look down at you. Your face is confused, but I'm afraid I can't tell you.

I stop the car in front of the building where two men in raincoats are waiting. We both get out. You still look confused.

One of the men comes up to me. "Is this him?" he asks. I nod.

"Father, what's happening? Who are these people?" You ask again. You sound scared, and you're clinging to my coat. I don't say anything.

I gently push you toward the men. One of them takes your hand, but you don't move. The other pushes you. They start dragging you toward the building. I look away.

There is a 'bang', and I snap my head up. One of the men is on the ground, and you're running toward me. "FATHER!" Lightning flashes.

You grab my coat. "Father, don't let them take me! I'm scared, please!" But I turn away, because I know that I would find my own face looking back at me. "Father?"

The men come back, and this time they both grab you, lifting you off the ground. "FATHER!" Your cry mingles with the thunder.

"Please Father, help me! Please, don't leave me! Father! Don't leave me please! DON'T LEAVE ME!"

I look up, and see water streaming down your face, and I'm sure it isn't rain. Once again, I turn away.

When you're finally inside the building, I get back into the car. I can't help but look up at the window. I see that you're still there.

I drop my gaze and I think about Cecilia, who is still in a hospital bed because of what you are. Then I think about how you were conceived… Out of a loveless union.

"I'm so sorry son," I whisper. "But it's for the best."
