DISCLAIMER:

I am a native Spanish speaker, so please excuse my grammar mistakes.

When I wrote this originally, I was a teenager and my English wasn't very polished.

This has been edited for better readability.

I want to add that; I had the audacity to write this unaware of the terms used on the English official translations. I still am unaware of them, sorry.

Thank you all for your kind reviews that inspired me to rewrite this.

Faye couldn't stop crying, on the corridor, clutching the gun in her hands. Deep inside her, she felt that she was the only one who could have stopped Spike from his demise. How long had it been, hours? No matter how long she waited, he wasn't coming back.

Smoking silently, Jet watched her shudder in absolute disbelief.

"What's with the crying, dolly, thought you hated him?"

"Hated him..." She drew a little smile in her face, that faded almost immediately. "Maybe I would still say so, before what happened yesterday."

"Weren't you on your own in old Earth, yesterday? How do you say... What do you mean?"
"Yeah, you're right. I went back to the old Earth, to my Earth, to find out who I was, and who I am. I found the ruins of what was my home, once, when I was young, rich and careless, found what was my beautiful room, I imagined everything was back in place, and lied on my bed..." Her voice and shoulders shook and she breathed deeply, trying to remain emotionless. "And while I was reliving in my mind that glorious past, for some reason, I had a feeling, and he came into my thoughts!"

Jet raised his eyebrows, but his remained closed, pressed together forming a straight line.

"All this time I've just been pretending to be a hard one. All was words, you know, I never really hated him. I was... I was scared, alright? Terrified."

"I spent decades frozen in a capsule, and the first loser who I met when I had no idea of what was going on, the one who seemed to love and care about me, who I trusted, went all the way with his lies to use me, and left me, lost, confused and sinking in debt. Why would I trust in no man after that? I knew nothing about the New World that opened before my eyes... I didn't want to trust, I didn't want to love again, if everybody was going to be that way."

A bit surprised by her words, the former policeman let her do all the talking, his eyes fixed on the weapon in her hands.

"But when I met you all, you, the dog, the girl and Spike, I, for once felt different. You all have your own shit going on but you did care, you turned to my family, but I was too afraid and proud to admit it. And Spike, oh, stupid Spike." She leant back, her back to the wall, her gaze lost in the bullet holes, lost within the panels of the corridor ceiling, her eyes glimmering with the electric lighting. "He is not that way... was." She then moved her head to pierce Jet with her fierce green eyes. "Remember how she talked about that woman, Julia?"

"Julia. Of course." He shook his head. "She's dead."

"Oh, how I wish I was her, right now." She sighed. "But before that, I wished he loved ME and not HER, I wanted his devotion for myself. Why couldn't I have that? All these years wasted, and nobody has ever showed me that, real love. I longed for it, I didn't want it to be obvious, but I needed it, I needed it from him." Her eyes filled with tears which she desperately tried to shake. "And where is he now, because of her? I was... I was..."

She jerked the hand that was holding the gun, in a movement that was too suspicious to cause self-harm. Quickly, Jet ran to her and hugged her in a somehow paternal manner, gently grabbing her hand and stealing the weapon from it. Her eyes were filled with pain and looked at him, begging. In spite of her real age, thanks to the miracle of cryogenics, she still looked very young and innocent, in that very moment. The man pitied her.

"I will miss him too, Faye, and I also wish I could have done better to stop him, but it was his choice to do and end things that way. He didn't know what you meant to him; I also had a couple of things I wish I had told..."

"He knew" She protested. His colleague backed out and looked at her, puzzled. "When I came back, when I was at peace, I found him and confessed EVERYTHING."

"I see."

"We sat on the old sofa, and after I told him, he turned his head to me, and looked at me, so deeply with those weird eyes of his. I should have realized there was something going on. He wasn't being himself. For a moment there I thought he didn't hear me, because he was lost, as if I had just told him the water on the shower's running cold again, or something"

"He said 'I don't what should I say, Faye. But it's good if you just sit with me' And smiled at me, as if he cared. Then he said he felt the same."

"WHAT!?" replied Jet, releasing her from his hug. "What the hell are you saying!?"
"I remember everything he said." She interrupted. "He told me exactly what I wanted to hear, and then we kissed, and then we undressed."

"…my goodness!" He touched his neck, speechless. Faye continued telling her story, filling each word with more rage and pain.
"And then, when we were done, he said 'If there was no Julia, If I had no past, I would spend the rest of my days with you.' Then he went to the shower and left to meet with her!"

Faye started to cry again. "Where does that leave me? I heard what he said to you when he came back, ready start al over, for all the things the future brought us. How brave to lie to me and say that to you, and then leave us to die. Why give us hope!"

The man just let her speak, defeated. "He has left me, and he has left you, and I had the chance to stop him, but I was scared again. Where did his emotions go, what he showed me before he left me, naked, to go with that woman. Did he use me as well? Did he just have fun in my body one last time?"

"Faye, at the end of the day, his war was not ours to fight. He had made his decision long time ago. He would want us to carry on with our lives, I believe that's what he meant. You are strong, come on, you've been through worse. Get yourself together"

"I thought he loved me. He lied." A couple of big fat tears rolled down her cheeks. "He used us all". Then her expression changed, as she jolted, with a loud bang from the ship's living room, just behind their backs. They both rushed into it, and in the darkness, they saw the unmistakable figure of their friend.

"Spike?" Asked his long-time partner in a loud, hesitating voice, reaching is hand towards the light switches. In silence, he saluted them both. When the lights were on, they could only find a music box over the table.
