Looking out the window, Petunia Dursley sighed. Turning back to the magical photo book, which she took from Harry's room, she stared at her sister's waving portrait. Flipping the page, she saw another picture, this time including James and Harry. They were all smiling and waving. Something that Petunia never experienced. She was forbidden to speak of magic around Vernon and Dudley. Tears brimmed her eyes. She closed her eyes and allowed its salty moisture run down her cheeks. Petunia looked out the window again, this time her gaze focusing on her nephew. Although he didn't know it, Petunia truly did loved Harry as her own son. She didn't really want him to weed the garden and do heavy work. The previous night, she had fought with her husband regarding Harry's condition. 'So pale and sallow' she had said. Vernon and simply waved the remark away, saying he ate too much. Petunia had been furious but concealed her feelings by agreeing. A single tear reached the portrait of Lily. Sighing, Petunia took a last look at her beloved sister. Closing her eyes yet once again, she whispered, "Oh, Lily. Please forgive my behavior towards Harry. I never wanted to hurt him, nor you or James." Tears began streaming down her cheeks rapidly. Memories of her past flew across her closed eyelids.
~Flashback~
There, Lily and her outside enjoying the sunshine as their parents sat on the white porch. Then came the day Lily received her letter for Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Petunia had been so proud of her sister. Regrettably, she had acted furious and called her sister 'a freak', only to impress her boyfriend, now husband, Vernon. Petunia would never forget the hurt and confused expression of her Tiger Lily. The pet name used between the sisters. The night before Lily left for Hogwarts, and unfortunately she would never know, Petunia had stood over Lily for quite a while, praying and wishing her a marvelous time. She had cut a lock of Lily's hair to keep with her forever. That last night, she had cried herself to sleep. The memories were blurred from then, until that faithful October 31, 1981. Her dear sister had been killed by the most feared wizard of all time, Lord Voldemort, along with her husband. When Petunia had received the owl from the Minister of Magic, she had broke down and sobbed, the tears streaming down her face uncontrollably. Her only and dearest sister was gone. And never would be able to hear Petunia crying over the loss of her.
~End of Flashback~
Opening her eyes, Petunia heard a faint whisper. It may have been the wind from outside, but Petunia was certain that it was Lily. Forgiving her for the past times. Petunia smiled faintly as a heavy load of guilt was lifted of her shoulders, leaving her with nothing but a sense of lightness, a sense………… of forgiveness.
The End
