Will looked at the strange pink fluff in Tessa's hand skeptically. "Tessa, what is that?" he demanded, and poked it.
She waved him away, shielding the candy cloud with her arm, and laughed. "Cotton candy," she said, and tore a small piece away before dropping it into her mouth. Her eyes closed and she moaned slightly in delight. "Delicious. Here, Will, try some."
He pushed Tessa's outstretched hand away indignantly, unimpressed. "Cotton candy," he said, rolling his eyes. "Brilliant. Yet you still haven't told me what itis."
"Air and sugar." Tessa held the pink cloud in front of Will's face. "Nate always bought it for me when we went to a carnival in New York," she said, and Will couldn't help but take notice of the way her voice grew soft as she mentioned her late brother.
Still skeptical, Will reached out and picked an itsy bitsy piece off. Giggling, Tessa tore a larger bit for him and shoved it in his mouth, completely abandoning the manners that normally she would never let him forget. Will nearly choked on the cotton candy, but it melted quickly on his tongue. It was delicious, but he couldn't very well say that. He wouldn't meet Tessa's eyes as he admitted, "It's fine."
She was still laughing, so at last Will turned back to her. He frowned. "What are you on about?"
Tessa pointed at the middle of his face, blushing. "You, um, you have a-" she stuttered. Something changed in her eyes then, as if she had a sudden burst of outrageous courage and bravery. Tessa stepped closer to Will and on the tips of her toes, one hand braced on his shoulder for support. Confused, he didn't move to stop her, wondering what in the Angel's name she was doing, and then- her tongue darted out and brushed against his nose.
Will bit the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing and from downright tackling her in a kiss as Tessa rested at her usual height. She licked her lips, and her cheeks were flushed pink, and she said, "You had some cotton candy on your nose."
