Here I go again I promised myself I wouldn't think of you today
Kikyo picked up her purse, and walked down the hall to the elevator. It happened again. For some reason, she couldn't get him out of her head. He was always there, haunting her.
It's been seven months and counting
'It's been too long,' she thought. 'Why am I so addicted to him?' She closed her eyes as the elevator took her down, hoping it would stop the tears. 'Why does it still hurt so bad?' She knew he didn't care anymore. She knew he had a new girl. One that was prettier, and much sweeter than she had been to him. He did deserve her. Kikyou had always treated him as if he was beneath her, but his new girl, Kagome, was just happy to be with him. Kagome had been his friend long before they ever started dating, and she had stuck with him while Kikyou had ripped his heart out and spit on it when she continuously put her work before him. Even though Kikyou had always put her work before him, it seemed that now that he was gone, he was all she could think of.
You've moved on
I still feel exactly the same
She walked out of the elevator, and out of the building, turning to walk home. He used to wait on her and walk her home so that he could have just 10 minutes of her time all to himself. She smiled as she passed the cafe that he would bring her lunch from, as a tear pushed its way down her cheek.
It's just that everywhere I go all the buildings know your name
Like photographs and memories of love
The museum that he took her to on their first date stood in front of her, on the corner. It was also their first kiss. She tried to avoid looking at it. It seemed as if its sole purpose now was to remind her of what she had lost. Kagome works at that museum. He probably still goes there often, and never once thinks of her.
Steel and granite reminders
The city calls your name and I can't move on
She walked the final block home, the tears falling freely now. It was like this almost everyday. Kikyou unlocked her door, and dropped her things on the floor. She walked to the fridge, it was late. He would be cooking Kagome dinner now. He was always a wonderful cook. Kikyou pulled out her leftovers that her brother had brought her. He knew she barely ate anymore. She sat in the dark, eating her cold dinner, alone. It suited her well, she realized. She would always be alone.
Ever since you've been gone
The lights go out the same
The clock read 8:07pm. She stood up and washed the glad-ware container that held her dinner. She hadn't eaten much, but she wasn't hungry either. She went and laid down. Even in her dreams, he called for Kagome. She knew he wasn't hers anymore. 'Why can't I let him go?' The tears fell freely, until she fell into a restless sleep.
The only difference is
You call another name
To your love
To your lover now
To your love
The lover after me
