A/N: Something I really wanted to contribute to the site. I feel like this is one of my best ever.

This is about a young boy in Rune-Midgard, dreaming of a life greater than what he leads at the present. His fate changes after the decision to join the most daring expedition yet conceived: a journey to the depths of the Glast Heim to retrieve a Mirror capable of bestowing limitless power. My first submission, so drop those reviews. Thanks, gyehehe. (I present GH here as a veeery deserted place, devoid of much human presence, unlike the actual situation in-game. . yeah, you know what I mean.)

Oh, and, the story is all mine; I don't really care what you do to any copy of this piece of my intellectual property as long as it does not involve slander or any sht like that. The Winds of Fate

Prologue.

January 8, 2006. The throne room of Prontera Castle.

And thus the expedition ended sire, a failure from most every perspective. However, we will never, must never, forget all those brave souls lost to this cause, no matter how dire their deaths be. A list of all those that we will commemorate follows the full report of the rescue party.

Hmmm… Ah yes. I knew quite a few of these men and women. Shame to have sent them only to lose all to a weakness in just one of them. Very well, make a proclamation to the people about— ah, wait. What is this…?

Sire?

This… Elisander Aforte… Whose name is this? I am certain that he is neither one of our own Knights nor any of the other kingdom's sent men; he has no distinction to his name, nor any merits of his profession. What do your men have of him?

Yes, well… We have managed to recover a diary of his, sire. It seems he was not a member of the expedition to begin with, but was rescued from a small caravan that befell ill fate as it crossed the path of the expedition near the outskirts of Geffen. I have that diary here with me sire… It may interest you to know that his accounts are a great part of what we know of what happened to the expedition, and as according to what he had put down before his death…

He was the last person left alive?

Yes, sire. Sadly, we were not able to find him in time. However, it is notable, sire, that due to the passages in that diary, we had managed to find and retrieve what remained of the party and return here much sooner than expected. We also found this object on… what remained of his corpse.

A medallion?

Yes, sire. This was what probably kept him alive until his last entries in his ledger. A holy aura surrounds that… locket, to be more accurate, and our priests have verified it's holy nature. We believe that stone, inside the locket,to be the very one the Sages spoke of to be able to unlock the Dark Mirror, and that they, the expidition, had used it to do so. We had originally though of it to have been lost in Glast Heim, and had been one of the objectives of the expidition to begin with. According to Sir Leonard's accounts in his diary, they had found the boy, Elisander, already in possession of the locket and refusing to relinquish it to the party. That is probably why, or how, the boy had been able to go along with them.

Elisander Aforte… In his own words he says that he was only seventeen years old… And he had been the one… Of all the people, a boy in a trading caravan…
