Many months ago, I reached 1000 followers on tumblr, and so I told everyone I'd write a very short fanfic about any couple people submitted to me. This one is for my obsessed cousin, Kelly, who cried with me throughout most of [K].

Disclaimer: I do not own [K].

Heat

Anna sat on the couch in Izumo's bar.

Her eyes flicked around the room at the other members of HOMRA; Izumo stood behind his prized counter, mechanically cleaning a glass as he tried to keep Misaki and his rowdy gang from breaking anything.

But no matter how long she busied herself with playing with her crimson marbles, Anna could not keep still for very much longer. At last, the chill in the air got to her and she hopped down onto the floor. Crossing the room, she gazed up at Izumo.

"Where's Mikoto?" She asked.

"Hm?" Izumo glanced down at her. "Ah, he was outside the last time I checked. Said he needed some air."

Anna nodded determinedly before heading to the door. Mikoto had left over ten minutes ago, and she had started to miss him nine minutes and fifty seconds ago.

Circling around to the back of the building, there was a small, grassy area with a single tree protected by one of the alleyways. She spotted Mikoto immediately; he was lying on his back beneath the shade with his hands behind his head, facing the sky with a cigarette in the corner of his mouth.

Anna bounded to his side but remained quiet when she noticed that his eyes were shut. She treaded carefully as not to wake him, but just before she sat down to curl up at his side, she stopped.

Instead, she decided to hoist herself up into the branches of the tree he lie under. It took her several minutes to complete this endeavor, as she slipped a few times, but she managed to reach about halfway up the tree before she was satisfied.

Leaning against the trunk, she folded her hands in her lap and closed her eyes, smiling a little as the warm sunlit made contact with her skin as it slipped through the rustling trees. She listened to that sound for a while, just barely on the borderline of consciousness, relishing the heat.

She must have been just about to fall asleep, for she was not aware of when Mikoto got to his feet until he called out to her.

"Oy." She slowly blinked her eyes open. Her gaze shifted into focus on him, standing with his hands in his pockets, his cigarette extinguished and on the grass as he looked up at her. "What are you doing up there?"

As her reply, Anna simply smiled and shook her head from side to side to dismiss his question. She slid her legs off the branch she sat on and clutched the bark of the tree as she struggled to hop down onto the next lowest branch. But before she could jump down, Mikoto spoke again.

"Anna." She immediately looked back to him as he removed his hands from his pockets. "Come here."

Her smile widened with delighted as she shifted to face his direction. She was trembling slightly because of the height, but she was not afraid. Pushing off against the trunk, Anna jumped down into his arms.

Mikoto caught her swiftly and tightly as she wrapped her arms around his neck. The deep warmth she felt at that instant was incomparably warmer than the minuscule heat wave of the sunlight.

Mikoto held her for a few extra seconds, bearing her weight as easily as if she were a dove. He then slowly let her onto the ground where she instantly took his hand.

"Let's go back inside." He said as they began to walk.

Anna nodded happily, reflecting the grin he cast her from the side.

A/N: I've written and posted a few more stories for Mikoto and Anna, but this was my first one, actually. Just an attempted to erase the events of the final episode from my mind... I hope you enjoyed!
