The land of Equestria, a land of freedom, prosperity and enormous talent. However, this was an alternate world from what we knew of Equestria, it appeared the same, but the government and the law of the land was different. This land was literally ran by a card game named 'Duel Monsters' and the top duelist of the land was responsible of ruling it.

A young mare, Neon Scroll was about to set off on a journey into the world and take part of what could be the biggest and most important moment in Equestrian history thus far. The Duelist Kingdom Tournament, a tournament known to involve every single citizen in Equestria was about to start and the winner of said tournament was to become known as the top duelist of Equestria. Hardly any facts were known of this tournament because the last one to occur was 100 years ago when Princess Celestia defeated Nightmare Moon in the finals to become Princess. The only thing that was known currently by common citizens was that they needed a duel disk and they needed to bring their strongest Deck with them to the Town Square of their city. Neon's brother, Flutter Night was already at the Town Square and he was waiting for his sister patiently. She wasn't late yet, but if she doesn't show up soon she will not be put into the tournament, which means her dream wouldn't come true.

"Hm...where could she be?" Flutter Night asked himself.

Before we continue this grand tale, let's go over this character. Flutter Night is Neon's brother, he's a strong-willed colt that would do anything for his sister, however, in this tournament he is out to prove himself to the rest of his family and to everyone that he is the best duelist in the world. This colt has the gentle eye color of blue but the expression on his face told otherwise, his coat was white as snow and his mane was black as night and blue as the ocean. The black and blue of his mane were separated perfectly as if they were forged that way. He waited patiently.

A ear-shattering scream was heard across Ponyville and Neon awoke from her slumber realizing how late she was to the start of what could be her life. The green-coated mare arose out of bed in a panic and she stumbled around looking for anything she could grab so she could hurry up and run to the Town Square. As she was getting ready a lot of things were happening at the same time, she brushed her teeth at lightning speed and instead of showering she accidently sprayed on too much perfume to cover any smell should would have left behind from the previous day. She quickly put on a pink duelist cloak and brushed her dark green and black mane and looked in the mirror to see if she looked ready. She looked herself straight into her bright green eyes and smiled with confidence as she grabbed her white duel disk and her specified deck for the tournament, took some saved up money out of her savings and dashed out of her house and headed for the Town Square.

"Oh man, I hope I'm not late!" She yelled to herself in a panic and galloped as fast as she could. She could see the Town Square and it was packed full of ponies. She ran up to the crowd but stopped herself as she was breathing heavily. She had made it just in time, but she had to find her brother amongst the masses of people. She looked on determined as she ran through the crowd, accidentally bumping into other ponies along the way as she approached the center, as she knew her brother would always be in the center because he knew her sister had a horrid sense of direction. She made it to the center and saw her brother there, waiting patiently. She smiled in relief as she walked up to him.

"Oh you're finally here. You were almost late you know." Flutter Night said to his sister, he made a weird face as he started to sniff. He looked at her and spoke, "You overdosed on perfume Neon, it's very strong. You didn't take a shower, did you?"

"Um...maybe…" Neon said awkwardly.

"You need to take better care of your hygiene sister, it's unappealing to anyone when someone smells awful." He said.

"Yeah...sorry, I overslept. I was frantic all night preparing the perfect deck, writing down all the strategies and combo's and learning them and...it was a lot of effort. But I did it Night, I'm confident I can win!" She said enthusiastically.

"Don't forget Neon, you may have to duel me and you know that it isn't going to be easy." Flutter Night said seriously in response to her over-excitedness.

"Oh I know brother, but even so, I'm sure that I will have plenty of great battles, and I'm excited." She said with confidence.

"Yes, I know you well Neon. No matter how hard the challenge, you will always accept any of them and do your best to win, even when the odds are against you. You will have plenty of fun and I know it." He smiled as she ruffled her hair, she blushed.

The royal guards blared their horns as everyone turned towards them. All the equines in the Town Square looked up onto the stage as the curtains opened, revealing a few guards with a small monitor. The townsponies were shocked at the reveal but the monitor soon released a static that turned on the mysterious device. Long and behold an image on Princess Celestia appeared on the monitor as the townsponies sighed with relief. Night raised an eyebrow out of curiosity while Neon looked in marvel.

"Hello inhabitants of Ponyville, it is I, Princess Celestia. As you all know, this is the location I have specified for the Ponyville inhabitants to begin the first part of the tournament. It has come to my attention that I may have not informed any of you about the tournament, and for good reason too. This tournament is all about being surprised, and what kind of surprise would it be if I revealed all the details, hm? However, I do need to tell you about the first part of the tournament, so you aren't too in the dark about it. Firstly," Celestia told the crowd as the Royal Guards walked into Townhall with cases; they walked around and handed each citizen two golden stars and a hoof bracelet and after they were done, they walked out.

Celestia then spoke once again, "As you may be wondering, these star chips have a very large significance when it comes to this tournament and I would like you to place the two star chips into two slots in your bracelets." The crowd attached the the star chips into the star holes, they fit perfectly. Celestia smiled as she spoke again, "As you may be aware, they're twenty star slots in your bracelets, this is for a purpose. The first part of the tournament is to seek out other duelists and to duel them and the winner of the duel will receive one star chip from the opponent and no more, unless the opponent agrees to the terms. When you have received twenty star chips, you will receive a message from me personally about the details of the next part of the tournament." The crowd looked interested and sparked.

"And lastly and the most important part of the tournament, have fun. Duel Monsters has always been what our culture was based upon and while it may be what this world revolves around, it is still a card game and meant for others to have fun. And now, let the tournament begin!" Celestia yelled as the crowd cheered and looked at each other. She smiled as she wasn't done just yet.

"Oh, and by the way, to avoid this tournament from ending too fast, the bracelet you have received has a teleportation device. Good luck citizens." She told them as the bracelets started to glow.

Neon panicked as she jumped onto Night and held onto him tight as the entire mass of townsponies teleported to unknown locations. Celestia smiled once again as the monitor shut off.
