"Musings of an FBI Agent"
(c) 1999 L.T. Clunas
Against the dark and distant sky
The silent ship is passing by
And I wonder: Is there another world?
Of new life and little green men
And all things strange and alien
A whole entire universe unfurled.
But my better half looks to say
"Not everything is cold and gray.
Science explains much more than we know.
Dates and times, and looking back,
Tangible things, and cold hard fact
Surely is the better path to go.
Your theories, though they may be true
Need more proof than 'alien' goo
And so I'm here, to help you on your quest.
They'd thought that I'd debunk your work
Somehow I gave in to your quirks.
I'll give you proof; at least, I'll try my best."
We've had our arguments at times.
Theories against factual mind.
But we've never fully turned against ourselves
And often times I wonder if
There could be something more than this,
Not just the weirdness into which we delve.
I may be paranoid; it's just
That she's the only one I trust.
She knows my thoughts, she knows the way I am:
"Fox, you know that I would lose
My life for you and for your cause.
Don't question me, you know the way I am.
You've been with me through what I've lost
And we both have paid the cost
For each other, the truth, and what we know."
She seldom thinks the thoughts I do.
She has a different point of view.
She's rarely called me "Spooky" Mulder, though...
We're not proper, we aren't formal.
We stare into the paranormal
Where the truth is lost in mystery.
We know too much, and we are hunted
The FBI's most unwanted.
We are key figures in conspiracy.
Even still, I want to believe
In things we humans can't perceive,
In forces that lay just beyond our own.
I still search; the truth is out there
Memories prove the thoughts I've here.
In this universe, we are not alone.
