'A Perfect Christmas Day?'
Set during Christmas of 'The Order of the Phoenix'.
A/N: The next chapter of 'Surviving' will be posted very soon, but this little poem just occurred to me over Christmas.
Disclaimer: JK Rowling owns everything and everyone in the 'Harry Potter' world. I'm just a fan with an overactive imagination.
'A Perfect Christmas Day?'
Could this be the perfect Christmas day?
Or has the jingle of ice cubes and the taste of the whiskey just made things seem that way?
Decorations covering the darkness within,
Stifling silences overwhelmed by a cheerful din.
Paint over the cracks; paste on a smile,
Focus on the light and ignore the darkness for a while.
Focus on Harry, on the young man here and now,
Try not to see Lily's eyes, the apologetic smile James produced after a row.
…
The day has passed and the silence returns,
Sitting by the fire, watching as past happiness burns.
Photo album open at a Christmas long past, a young baby and old school friends…
that Christmas…both the first and the last.
Haunted eyes scan the picture, searching for…something…
Only to find it in the presence of another human being.
Because for all that was lost, something important had been found,
An old friend breaks the silence, tales are retold and happy memories abound.
A smile becomes a laugh as the darkness begins to lift,
and many tales are told as each man receives a special gift.
Two wounded friends, old before their time,
Reminisce and recall times when everything seemed fine.
Fate had torn their lives apart,
But together they were stronger than they ever were apart.
The past was history,
the future is a worrying mystery.
A toast is made to friends, present and past,
the remaining Marauders…friends to the last.
"Happy Christmas Moony"
"Happy Christmas Padfoot"
