Disclaimer:I don't own Harry Potter, JKR does!
Tonight is the night. Tonight, I will make wizard history and do what no wizard has done before. Tonight I will break free of this prison and begin on the journey to commit the murder for which I am imprisoned. Tonight is the night.. .
With these thoughts, Sirius Black fell into a light sleep, waiting for the moment when his food would be delivered. He would slip through the gap and begin his quest for vengeance.
Sirius awoke to movement in the halls. He knew that now was the time to act. He quickly morphed into a dog, the only power he had remaining and the only thing keeping him sane, and sat by the door, waiting. When the door was opened the slightest crack, Sirius slipped through the small opening, and ran noiselessly to the end of the hall. I guess this is why they call me Padfoot, Sirius smiled to himself, as his run to the end of the hall had been virtually silent. Sirius continued running through Azkaban. He had to make it out quickly, the Dementors were confused and if they were confused, they'd begin searching, and they'd find Sirius missing. Sirius doubled his efforts, turning one last corner. He skid to a stop and stared out into the vast water surrounding him.
How could I forget the water? Sirius scolded himself for not thinking of the fathoms deep North Sea Azkaban was situated in. A million thoughts ran through his head. There has to be another way. What about the supply boat? Yeah, I could roam the graveyard and hop aboard the supply ship, nobody will even notice, and even if they do, they'll just think I'm a lovable stray. Yes, that is a good plan. Sirius would simply sit and wait for the next boat. Wait, when does the next boat come in? Ok, so maybe it's not the best idea, but what else am I supposed to do? The water is cold, choppy and deep, I'll probably drown! Sirius continued to contemplate his situation, there had to be some way. From the inner corridors, Sirius heard the swish of a cloak. I'm going to be discovered soon. I can't wait...but the water...Sirius, shut up and jump. With that final thought, Sirius propelled himself into the water.
The water felt oddly refreshing, it was frigid cold, yes, but for the first time in thirteen years, Sirius Black felt alive. For thirteen years he had nothing but the sounds of his worst memories filling his head and the obsessive thought that he was innocent. Now, all of Sirius' good memories were flooding back to him. It made him feel warm inside, a feeling he had not felt in over a decade. I can't believe it, I did it! Now to find Peter. Sirius swam and swam. After the first four hours, he began to despair ever reaching land. He was going to die in this lake. After thirteen years of being imprisoned and finally escaping, Sirius was going to drown swimming his way to shore. No, don't think like that, just put on paw in front of the other and keep swimming. Soon, shore was looming on the horizon. For the first time in thirteen years, Sirius knew he was going to make it.
Sirius fell onto the shore, exhausted. He had made it. Well, he had escaped, that's about it, but he still needed to make it up to Hogwarts. Sirius couldn't even contemplate the journey to Hogwarts. Truth be told, he was not quite ready. Sirius slowly made his way up to the cliff nearby. Surely there had to be a cave somewhere. Sure enough, Sirius found a little cave on the cliff face. He went inside and curled up in the corner. He would find a way to get to Hogwarts, but first he needed to sleep. Sirius fell off to sleep knowing that the first part of his journey was over, but that his journey to freedom was just beginning.
