Always

The doorbell rang. Funny. Also kind of funny I thought about this. A button that you push to say that you're here, with a chime, a buzz, a ring, a note really...a note...like from a song...songs are supposed to cheer you up, right? And this day had to be the least cheerful day in the world.

I opened the door, Pikachu sitting solemnly on my shoulder.

"Ash...I'm so sorry." Misty stood in the doorway, donned with an aqua jacket over a tight blue shirt, and a pair of flare jeans, with a backpack on her back and her bright orange hair down, now all the way to the middle of her back, and a heartbroken look on her face. She reached out and hugged me while I simply stood there, numb. I saw a taxi in the background...so she wasn't planning on staying for very long. "Fredon Island will give me a great education, ya know. I have to go."

No you don't! Don't go! You don't have to! Please.... My mind screamed, but still I stayed silent, numb, frozen on the spot.

"The taxi's waiting Ash. Wait for me...don't leave me. I'll always be here with you. Please Ash! Say something! Please!" But I didn't.

"Ash...I've gotta go. Please, say something. Please...." But when I still didn't answer, she gulped, and let me free of the hug she had me in. "Good-bye...Ash." She turned around and started walking down the steps. Pikachu chirped, saying his good-byes.

"Don't go." I whispered. Misty turned around slowly. "I love you. And I never want to say good-bye."

"Ash, don't do this! It's too late for that! You can't!" And with those final words, she turned around and dashed down the sidewalk to the taxi.

"Misty...please, no! MISTY!" I shouted. But I was too late. The driver sped off, with Misty in the back, crying. "Please don't go." But she was gone. And though I didn't know it then, she wasn't coming back. Because she was killed in a car wreck...which I saw.

It happened about a block away from my house. I was at her side in a second, I had to watch her die. Her last words were, 'I'll always be there.' And when I became a Pokemon Master, I swear I saw her in the stands, smiling at me. She has always been there. Always.
