Love Comes and Goes, but Friends Stay forever

A very simple one-shot, and my first new story published in ages. Dedicated to a very close friend of mine here on Fanfiction. This if for you MNQ.

Merlin sat down at the lake, looking at the water.

Everything around him was silent. No dark presence could be felt around him. Morgana's betrayal had hurt him very much, and still he blamed himself for it. The feeling that he could've saved her, that he could've prevented this, still haunted him everyday.

He loved Morgana, it was a secret from deep within him. Nobody knew it, although Gwen maybe. But he wasn't certain. And now that Morgana had walked the path of darkness, he knew that his love was gone, and his heart was broken.

"Merlin" a voice said behind him.

Merlin turned around. He saw Gwen standing there, looking very beautiful like always, and having a smile on her lips.

"Hello Gwen, what brings you here?" Merlin asks. She sat down next to him saying "princes from various kingdoms come over for Arthur's hand, still he refuses all of them" she says.

They sat together in silence for a while. Until Merlin broke it "I can understand why Arthur refuses all the time, you're his world" he said. Gwen just sighed.

"I wish love wasn't so complicated" she said. Merlin nodded and said "I know what you mean" and Gwen took hold of his hand.

"I know how you felt about Morgana, how much you cared for her. And now this must happen. I'm so sorry for you Merlin" she said. "You have nothing to be sorry for, I should be, I fell in love. And that's if you think about the worst mistake you can make" he said and looked down onto the water.

"Love can bring both happiness and pain. You can give someone your heart, yet that won't mean it can still be broken afterwards. Luckily there are friends who will help you go trough all of that."

They looked up from the shining water and looked at each other. Both smiling.

"Well you know what they say," Merlin said "Love comes and goes."

"But friends stay forever."

And how true. I hope whoever reads this likes it.
