A blasphemous abomination

"Father! Why have you called me here?!" he asked, eyes glaring in the harsh light of the Eva storage hangar. Misato stood behind, slightly taken aback at the young man's sudden hostility.

"I have summoned you back here because I have a use for you," Gendo said, his voice booming of the public address system and echoing off the cold steel walls.

The young boy gritted his teeth in bitter hate. Gendo had never so much as given him a birthday card for three years. Gendo hand't even bothered to show up when he won that tournament. As far as he was concerned Gendo was no father of his.

"How can you expect me to pilot this thing when I've never seen it before in my life?!" yelled Ash Ikari at his father. "I mean it's not even in the Pokedex!" Ash exclaimed, pointing his finger at the purple monster.

"Pika pi!" agreed his little Pikachu buddy.

"You have battled Pokemon," Gendo said coldly.

"What does that have to do with this?!" Ash shouted back, upset.

"The principle is the same. You order it to move, and it will move." Gendo said. Misato tried to get a word in edgewise. "Please, Ash, you're the only one who can..."
Gendo interrupted before Misato could finish her sentence.

"Nurse Joy?" Gendo barked into the microphone

"Yes, Commander?" answered a young woman's voice from the otner end of the line.

"Bring in Rei."

Ash heard the whooshing of a door opening behind him. Whirling around he saw the familiar figure of Nurse Joy, along with the tall blonde Doctor Akagi, wheeling in a gurney.

"PIKA!" the little Pikachu exclaimed, reflecting its master's total surprise.

On the gurney was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. She was heavily bandaged around her head, chest and arms, but the bandages did not obscure Ash's view of a haunting red eye wincing in pain.

It was the saddest sight Ash saw in his life. No way was he going to let his faher use an obviously injured girl in that thing.

"I'll do it. I'll pilot the Eva," Ash slowly said, turning to Misato, nodding his assent.

"Pika!" the little creature was just as deternined as Ash.
