To the moon and back
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, yep.
A/N Hey all, this is my first fanfiction. Constructive criticism would be highly appreciated!
"I would fly to the moon and back if you'll be, if you'll be my baby." -Savage Garden
Glassy silver eyes stared unblinkingly into the twinkling stars above. They were the eyes of Draco Malfoy, son of Lucious Malfoy, and heir to the position of dark lord. Though he did not wish to be. Quite the contrary he hated and despised his life.
"Why?" whispered Draco. "Why?" It was the only thing he could ask. The only thing he wanted was an answer. Was there no solution? What had he done wrong in a past life that had caused him to forever be cursed to walk in the footsteps of his father? But, he played along in his role. He had become a very good actor at having to tolerate the daily screams of muggle children he was forced to kill for sport.
"Why, what?" Little Ginny had appeared out of the darkness of the Astronomy tower. Draco did not look at her, for he was afraid he would reveal too much information with his eyes. It didn't matter. He had recognized her voice as to be the youngest goody-goody Weasley child.
"Isn't it passed your bedtime?" sneered Draco, making sure his focus was directed to the night sky. "Why, what?" she repeated ignoring Draco's question. "It is none of your concern, muggle lover, now kindly leave before I decide to practice crucio on you." There was a slight waver to his voice that was ever so distant. "You were asking why life is so hard and why it seems you have no say in anything you do." Responded Ginny. It was not a question but a statement. Draco whirled around in the balcony his black cloak twirled. "You.How would you know?" All of Draco's thoughts were jumbled together. "It's not easy," was her last comment before sitting down and staring idly at the full moon.
Draco shifted his gaze towards the moon as well. "I don't want to become a death-eater." Draco spoke quietly. "My father, its all his fault." Draco shifted positions slightly. He didn't care what the girl thought of him. She would probably be his father's next victim anyway. What did it matter if he gave off a bit of information to a girl on a death list. She looked at him then towards the moon again. "My brothers get all the glory." Draco was a bit started by this. He eyed her as she spoke. "I'm tired of being in the shadows Draco. Being forced to do whatever they command, never getting to make my own decisions about my life." She paused to take a breath. And then continued. "I want to end it."
Draco was taken back. She was nothing like the other Weasleys. She was just like him. Mentally abused and broken, wanting noting more then to find any means of escape. Draco uncharacteristically stepped forward and embraced the small girl in a loving hug.
Ginny kept speaking though. "The moon is beautiful isn't it? I'd like to go there sometime." Draco stepped back and took her hand. "Then lets go together." Ginny lips moved to a faint smile as she stood. They walked together to the edge of the Astronomy tower. "To the moon, then?" questioned Draco. Ginny while still smiling answered, "To the moon."
They leapt off the edge together into the night sky holding hands while cascading downward. The moon stood its ground watching the two lost souls drown into the dark abyss. They had found peace at last.
