Falling to his knees he wept. Tears streaming down his dirty bloody face. With his hands to his stomache he winced in pain. Blood seeping through the spaces between his fingers. Merry ran over, his sandy brown hair cascading upon his eyes as they were filled with tears. Putting a hand on his shoulder he looked back into the eyes of his best friend. The skin between his brows creased with the worry that his expressions were showing. With a gasp of air and quivering of his lips, Pippin fell onto the ground on his back. Feeling the earth underneath him turn silent. Merry brushed strands of hair away from Pippin's face. His bloodshot eyes gazing up at him. Complexion turning a pasty white as he continued to gasp for air. Frodo and Sam ran over their footsteps light yet being heard by Merry. they looked down at the two as Merry looked up at them. One single tear left the pool of his right eye and rolled off his face and oto the same ground that Pippin laid upon. "He doesn't deserve to die." Merry's voice questioning and filled with sorrow. "Why?...Why him?" To this neither Frodo nor Sam had the answer to. To comfort him, Sam put his hand on Merry's shoulder. The moonlight beaming down on them making them all look like tiny angels. Pippin reached his hand up and took Merry's into it. Squeezing tightly never wanting to let go. He spoke although his voice was raspier and was interrupted by coughs a few times, they could still understand him. "I'm sorry.." Merry's eyes turned confused much like the feeling inside of him at that moment. "Sorry?..Sorry for what, Pippin?" he asked. Pippin put a hand to his mouth and covered it as he coughed up blood. "S...Sorry for failing. I should have never come along. I have been nothing but a nusience." They all shook their heads except Sam who was still in shock. "What?..No, Pippin, no..you did not fail. You did far from it. You fought bravely. Held true to us all. The last thing I would ever say about you, Peregrin Took, is that you went out without bravery because you always had it in you." Pippin gulped listening to Merry's words. Tears started to form once again in Pippin's eyes. Rolling off his cheeks like dew drops on flowers. He managed a smile through all the pain. Merry smiled back at him. Holding back the river of tears and weeping that he had inside. He leaned over Pippin and kissed him on the forehead. "Goodbye Peregrin Took." With that Pippin smiled. "It's Pippin, Merry, It's Pippin." Merry placed a hand on his shoulder. "Forgive me, Goodbye dear Pippin, goodbye." Slowly Pippin closed his eyes taking another gasp for air, this being his last. All forms of life left his body as his hands fell open at his sides. revealing the deep gash beneath them. Merry stood and walked to Frodo and Sam. A loss for words came over all of them. At that moment a icy cold wisp of air came in and rustled the leaves on the trees. Causing the branches to move so that the moonlight could be revealed more upon them. The place where Pippin laid had a single beam of moonlight coming down upon it. Upon him. Merry turned and looked at the fallen hobbit. A sense of dignity still lied in his face. He just stared. Sam and Frodo turned from him. Sadness consuming all. Merry raised his hand and waved slightly. Murmering into the wind. "Goodbye Pippin, goodbye."
