Nero was a fun-loving daughter of Zeus and Necroa (a nymph of death and darkness), and had an admiration for art and music. She was born on the island of Crete but grew up in Olympus. When she wasn't spending time with her mother or playing in the fields with the nymphs, she either listened to Apollo's music or went to Hephaestus' forge to watch and admire him as he created all kinds of craft.
One day when she was playing in the fields, she came upon a traveler named Pyr, who also turned out to be a craftsman. Together, they shared their love for art and craft in friendly conversation, and eventually the two became such good friends that Pyr would come to that very field every day to chat with Nero. Necroa saw her daughter talking with Pyr every day, but, she didn't really like Pyr.
Nero listened as Pyr talked about his many travels throughout the lands, meeting different people and seeing many different art styles. Especially in the city of Athens.
Nero was fascinated by Pyr's many travels, and longed to leave the fields and Olympus to explore the world herself too. Pyr, noticing her longing for the outside world, said, "If you want that much to travel and see the rest of these lands, then why not leave with me one day? And I will guide you."
Necroa, spying in her dark, shadowy form, heard what Pyr had said and did not like it. He was influencing her daughter too much. And no way was she going to let Nero run off with him.
Nero reluctantly agreed to run off with Pyr, for their friendship had become something much more. So the next night, Nero crept from her room, away from her mother, and down to the fields, where she met Pyr, and they set off.
When Necroa woke up to find that Nero wasn't in her bedroom, she flashed with anger at the obvious answer. Nero and Pyr would've already have been far ahead by now, so she called upon every shadow in the night to search and tell her the location of the two travelers.
Apparently Nero and Pyr had rested under the massive shadow of a willow tree, so Necroa got there in no time.
And for the consequence of their actions, Necroa made sure that they would never be able to touch without getting hurt. If Nero tried to touch Pyr, part of him would simply disappear in a hiss of mist and smoke. And if Pyr tried to touch Nero, part of her would fade away as steam. And still, even today, you can see them struggle in the forms of water and fire.
