Wordlessly, Katie and Sadie complied. Soon after Noah gave them another quick glare, they headed over to a different part of the pool.
Putting back on his shades, Noah relaxed back in his lounge chair and began reading the paragraph he'd already read 25 times. It was kind of hard to concentrate when his thoughts kept drifting back to...
Izzy. The 'crazy bird' he'd come to love.
Sighing, he started his 27th time. She could never love him back. She had Owen. She was happy.
And not that Noah would ever admit it aloud, but he actually cared about her. A lot.
"Noah! Noah! Hey, Noah!"
Dropping his shoulders, Noah peered at him from over the top line of his book. "What, Izzy?"
"What are you doing?" She tilted her head to the side, much like a young puppy might.
"Reading."
"Why?"
"It's good for you, you should try it sometime."
She laughed. "You're so funny, Noah. Wanna go blow the basketball court up?"
"What?"
"Just kidding. Or was I?" And she backed away, laughing maniacally the entire time.
He internally sighed once more.
