She couldn't understand how her life had come to this. She had come to La Push at the beginning of the summer to relax and unwind, maybe to bring her family together again.

Instead she found a broken and bitter Leah Clearwater, and lovestruck baby brother, and a hot headed werewolf for an imprint.

She remembered calling Rebecca over the phone screaming at her "Whatever you do DO NOT come back here, promise me."

She had wept over the phone until her sister's voice reached her ears. "I promise Rachel."

She couldn't tell her why, tell her what had happened to the place they loved so much in fear that she would damn her to an endless eternity here as well.

The day Paul imprinted on her she had seen all her life plans, dreams and goals flush right down the drain. She could still feel the pain that constricted in her chest as she rejected his imprint, a choked sob ripping from her throat. "I can't accept, I'm sorry but I don't want this."

She could still her his voice roaring in here ears as he tried to convince her to stay, that he was perfect for her, everything she needed. It was the same voice that lulled her to sleep at night, the memory of the claws ripping through her skin shortly afterwards left her screaming.

Emily carried her scars upon her face, Rachel wore hers on her arm, the flesh still wrapped up in the thick heavy cast that Doctor Cullen had assigned to her. "It should be healed in 3 months" what nobody else heard was the whisper that followed "if you are going to run again, wait for 4."

Four months had come, past, and gone yet she way still here on month 6 waiting for her chance to run- and finally it had come.

The pack had a meeting and all of the imprints were expected to be at Emily's helping to prepare a feast that would hold the pack until the morning. Fuck that. Rachel Black was leaving after having to 'comply' to pack wishes for a month. She was finally alone and able to run.

She grabbed her bag, with calloused hands, and walked out the door. She had to reach the airport by 6, after that she would be free.

Rachel opened the white wooden door of Paul's home using her key to lock it behind her and quickly ran to the burgundy car parked out in the front.

30 minutes into her flight to Greece, Rachel felt a crushing pain in her chest. She couldn't go back to Hawaii and endanger Rebecca. As she felt her heart break apart and pull itself together again, her soul lifted and felt lighter than it ever had. She was free.

Paul felt his wolf cry out in anguish, he knew that something was wrong. He went to the front door of his small home, breaking the handle off with ease. The door was locked, so she was still home. Rachel's smell filled the air but he could hear no heartbeat.

"Rachel?!" Paul tore through his home, sifting from room to room like a shadow unwilling to confirm what he already knew.

She was gone.

And as Paul felt his heart break, the imprint breaking with it he knew that he would never be the same again.
