He won't answer, she hesitated standing before the mailbox, he never does. She fought constantly, sending the letters to different areas, not one letter ever went to the same place, and yet, he was never there. She wondered what happened to the letters, they were never sent back, maybe they'd send them to him. Or maybe they just burned them, and it was true, that he was honestly gone. Forever. But he promised her, he promised. The letter pressed to her torso as she stared into the mailbox, as if demanding it to tell her where he had gone.

She'd lost count of the many letters, and voicemails, she had left him over the past few months. He hadn't said anything to cause the worry to well inside of her chest; she only assumed even then that he would never be coming back. Her teeth bit her lip, fighting back the tears; he had to come back one day. It wasn't like him to just give up. He'd fight back to her, if only to tell her goodbye for the final time. She pulled the letter away, hardly making out the words she wrote from the painful haze filling her insides. Shin-Ra, Zack, SOLDIER.

It meant something to him, it gave him hope to fight for what was right, even if in the end, it was all so very wrong. She glanced up, staring at the massive plate separating her from the sky—from his eyes. She'd tear it down herself to feel him near her again. Her mother had scolded her for being so 'love-sick' over someone she hardly knew, scolded her when she found her scribbling over paper. Her only excuse for standing still in the same place, everyday, praying for some sign, was that Zack would never give up on her, the least she could do, despite her weaknesses was to fight anyway she could for him.

"Aeris?" She broke from her daze, turning to face the voice.

Staring at her with concern was the same boy who had stolen Zack's wallet. Zack had finally earned the slum citizens' trust, all because of a small theft; she decided that made the two even. The boy reached up, taking the letter from her hands, and shoving it into the mailbox, before she had the chance to protest. She stared at the box, as the boy's eyes returned to her.

"He'll come back, no one could leave you behind Aeris," Slowly a smile etched across her face as she turned and nodded.

"You're right," She watched him turn and run back off to his friends. "I think."
