It hurt more than when he broke his arm, more than that cinderblock when it fell on his foot. More than the countless punches, kicks, and bites that he's sustained over the years. Hell, it hurt more than his imagination was ever willing to go. To see his best friend with the girl he loved for years, years, was just too much.
As he leaned against the door to her house his eyes traveled up, looking at the clouds on this stupid bright day. He couldn't swallow the pain and ring the doorbell, even though he desperately needed to give her that letter. He settled for stuffing it into her mailbox and running off.
When she checked her mail the next day, her heart crumbled in her hands.
