Questions
"Alice, less of the questions. Just get going." Honestly, why couldn't she just do as he asked and find someplace to hide, instead of running after him to ask more questions? You'd think hearing the words 'I'm the bait' would be enough to tell her that she should not be next him when this thing showed up. He pushed her away from him in an attempt to get her to flee to safety.
"You're going to lead this thing back to the posse?"
She just couldn't leave it alone, could she? "Yes!" He said, his frustration starting to break through. "After it gets a good look at me. Now could you just, please, go!"
But of course, she didn't do that. "That's your plan."
Okay, now that was going just a bit too far. Did she really have to say it like that? Yes, he knew it was stupid, but it wasn't like they really had any other options, was it? And of course, she just couldn't simply be thankful that he was risking his life to help her either. "If you don't-" His sentence was cut off by a low growl, followed by several stomping footsteps that were increasingly in volume.
He searched the forest in front of him for a moment, before turning towards Alice, who appeared to have come the same conclusion about the Jabberwock's position that he had. Simultaneously, they turned around and came face to face with the beast. His mind and mouth spoke one word at the same time (Though it was much louder inside his head than in his mouth) "Run".
He took off, hoping that he was going in the right direction. After a few moments, he realized that he couldn't hear Alice running beside him, and that the Jabberwock's thundering footfalls were getting quieter. His mind filing with apprehension, he turned to see Alice vanishing in the opposite direction, with the beast lumbering along after her.
Thinking back on it later, he would wonder just which of the two beings his next frustrated words were meant for. "Not that way!"
