The Cursed Ring

Chapter One

The Origin of the Ring

A young woman ran for her life through the streets screaming for help. She constantly turned around to see if her attacker was gaining on her, and sure enough he was. "Come here Lila." the man slurred. He was clearly drunk but he was still gaining on her. "Go away!" Lila screamed pushing herself to run faster. 'Just a little bit more and I will be safe.' she thought. The man she had been running from was an abusive ex- boyfriend named Parker. She had been walking home from work to go to her shared apartment with her fiancé.

Parker, knowing her everyday route, decided that today if he couldn't have her then no one would. Lila thought that he would catch her and beat her, but little did she know, Parker had a gun and was now aiming at his target. All of a sudden a loud bang pierced through the silent street. The running stopped. Lila was hit. Blood pooled out of her shoulder. Parker ran up to her and saw she was wounded but still alive. He mentally cursed at himself for not getting a clean shot. Still clearly drunk, but not wanting her to be able to identify him as the man who shot her; he had to get rid of her. He shakily brought the gun to the back of her head and pulled the trigger. For the second time, a loud bang went through the streets but was followed by the sirens of an ambulance and police cars.

Parker tried to get away but was gunned down by the police after arriving to the scene. Lila's body was found and brought to the coroner. However, before the body was transported to the coroner they retrieved her ring. After contacting her fiancé, he rushed to identify the body. Once she was identified the detective asked if she had any close relative besides him. "Well yes, we have a five year old daughter together. Why do you ask?" He asked the detective. "We wanted to give this ring to a close relative as a momentum of her. I think it would be best if your daughter has it, once she is old enough of course." "Thank you so much detective." He said. "No problem Mr. …?" "David Jones." The man said. "No Problem Mr. Jones" the detective said. "Please call me David." David told him. As they were talking, a little girl came up to the two men and pulled on her father's pants leg. "Daddy, where is mommy? When is she going to come home?" She asked. David sighed. "Umm, mommy is moving away." David told her. He didn't know how to tell his five year old daughter that she had just lost her mother forever. He would have to wait until she was old enough to understand.
