It had been 30th july. And it had been hot, it had been so terribly hot outside that she didn't think she would've made it to the hospital without Michael. Michael had been grocery shopping with her that day, they did those little things way more often, even while he was in a relationship with Holly. They were arguing about which kind of diapers would be better for the baby when her water broke. She hadn't even noticed.
'No, this one! She grabbed it from the shelve and pushed it into michaels'face.
He pushed it away and grabbed another one showing and telling her all the ways that one was better than the one she just had picked. But suddenly michael had gone quiet. She had looked at him with triomf, thinking she just won the argument about diapers, but when he opened his mouth and closed it again, she wasn't all that sure what was going on.
'Michael, are you okay?' she asked with concern in her voice.
'Your..Your..your.. water just broke, Jan.'
'My water did what?' she looked down.
'Oh my god. Oh MY GOD.We gotta get you to the hospital!' Michael said while asking her all kinds of questions if she was okay, if she could walk, etc.
Jan let Michael push her out of the supermarket, quite in a daze, she could still hear michael screaming though: 'PREGNANT LADY COMING THROUGH.'
They got into his car and drove to the hospital. The first contractions were coming over her and she screamed in pain. She tried to listen to michael's calm words:'it'll be okay, let's put on the radio.' He turned up the radio and there was this real summer-song coming out. Summerjam by.. she had totally forgotten who sang it. She tried to listen to the lyrics while another wave of complete and utter pain came over her:
This ain't nothing but a summer jam
Brown skin and
Cinnamon dance (whoo-hoo)
This ain't
nothing but a summer jam
We're gonna party
As much as we can
Hey-yeah ooh hey-yeah
Summer jam alright
Hey-yeah ooh
hey-yeah
Michael had started to sing around where the 'whoo-hoo' had started. It had been, kind of soothing.
When he brought her in, she couldn't walk anymore because of the pain, and the possibility of her baby slipping right out there, so they immediately brought her a wheelchair and wheeled her to the nearest room. In that room there were still a few other people, they were celebrating, the woman in the bed had just gotten twins.
'I'm sorry that we have to put you here, but there's no other room available'. the docter explained michael's questioned look at the other people. She didn't want to deliver her child with all these strangers, but she had to, the thing had to come out or she would go in there herself and pull it out.
Michael still hadn't left her side, still whispering comforting things at her. The doctor told her to push and she pushed, pushed and pushed. And there it was, their little miracle. When she got the little girl into her arms, she immediately saw it had been Michael's after all. The green eyes and the bit of black hair on her head. She smiled. When she looked up at Michael she saw he was doing his best not to cry, while everyone else in the room clapped for them.
Suddenly Jan asked: 'Michael, are we ever.. could we ever.. be together again?'
He looked down at the little child and said: ' Yes, yes we could.'
THE END.
