My Red-Letter Day
I remember the way how everyone was hustling to keep me occupied while he made the last minute arrangements. Sue taught me how to knit, which I found rather interesting taking into consideration of Sue's hobbies. Later, Johnny took me to a race car race which I had no clue what happened except that a blue car won, according to Johnny. Afterwards, Reed took me to a place which awfully seemed like his lab and taught me the laws of physic. I'm sure he didn't want anyone to know that he hadn't taken me somewhere else than his lab.
I remember the way how Sue told me that I had to go shopping with her. She dragged me to all the fashion boutiques and stores to find the perfect dress for the perfect night. After hours of searching and trying out, Sue was astounded by a red dress I wanted. It was knee-length and a halter top with sequins along the halter. On the hem, there were roses, red roses. Sue was absolutely flabbergasted.
I remember the way how Ben asked me out on a date to a restaurant. Asking what all this was for, all I received was a night I will never forget.
I remember the way, on the night, Ben was wowed by my dress. Even I was impressed. Sue had done wonders on my hair and all the make up I wore was did by her. I even heard Ben's jaw drop, and hear Reed's jaw drop. Johnny whistled, I think.
I remember the way how Ben held my hand and took me to the restaurant. Once I stepped inside, I felt a new atmosphere. By the way it felt, I think it was a very expensive restaurant. Together we were seated, and ordered and remained quiet until our food was served. As I nibbled on my spaghetti, I could almost hear Ben sweating.
I remember the way how Ben shook the nervous feeling off easily. Afterwards, we went to a park, where both of us walked, with Ben holding my hand. I closed my eyes and let the cool breeze swipe off my face. I smiled at Ben and I knew he saw it when he squeezed my hand.
I remember the way when Ben told me to sit down and that he had a very important question to ask. He went down and asked if I would marry him. I couldn't believe my eyes. I smiled through tears and nodded.
I remembered the way he took me into his arms and spun me around. I smiled being in his arms. Once he set me on the ground, I leant over to close the gap between us. As I kissed him, I vowed to never become like Debbie.
I remembered how Ben smiled forever after that for few months. And I remembered how that day was my red-letter day.
