Little One
Not alone but safe
Surrounded by warmth
Sucking on you thumb
Waking and sleeping
Rocked to gentle dreams
In this watery cradle
X
Sweet little one
Sleeping so gently
As I fashion your form
I know you little one
Known you since before
Your heart began to beat
X
You arch your back
And wiggle your toes
The valves of your heart
Open and close
As it beats
As you breath
X
You are my delight
Little one, so small
Tiny enough to hold
In the palm of my hand
Your new life is peaceful
Your little soul so beautiful
X
You are still
Resting
So tired
Thumb in mouth as
You feel something poking
At your cradle
X
Beloved little one
My sweet child
I can do nothing
Though I have tried
To sway the decision
It was not mine to make
X
You do not think
"Don't you love me?"
You kick violently
"Don't you want me?"
You flail your fists
As you feel the water drain away
X
I am here, little one
Here, always
And I feel your fear
Like it was my own
I know you
And I love you
X
Small as you are
You feel the pain
As your legs are torn away
Your arms, your chest
Your little heart
Chewed up and sucked away
X
I weep, little one
I, the God who sees in secret
I heard your silent scream
Though your cradle lies empty
I will take you in my arms
Come to me, Little One
And never know pain again
