I See It Now
By Jacey
Tommy Oliver watched Kimberly Hart square dance with her new boyfriend Jason Scott. Also Tommy`s best friend. He hadn`t seen her too much lately; he`d been avoiding her. He`d broken up with her. He`d told her it was because he`d met someone new. It was a lie. He didn`t think they`d been clicking right. That was two months ago. A new song came on the speakers:
''It`s good to see your face again,
It`s been awhile.
How`m I doin'?
Well I get by somehow.
You sure look good
since your new love came in your life
Though I never saw that fire in you
He`s found, oh, but I see it now.''
Tommy`s ears perked up. That song described him and Kimberly to a T. He sighed. She and Jason were sitting this one out. Maybe he`d dance with her. Though clearly, nothing would happen.
''I never saw that look in your eyes
And I never had you hold me that tight.
And I never saw you dance
with your feet off the ground.
Oh but I see it now,''
As he got up to ask her, she got on the floor with Jason. Another song was playing. He sighed again. They looked so perfect together. She looked so beautiful! He never should have split things! Now he was left without his love and Kimberly was quite happy with her new one.
''While holding him
you never looked more beautiful
Lettin' go has been so hard on me
And standing here,
It`s clear to see
What he means to you
The way you look at him
It ain`t no mystery
He`s all I couldn`t be''
Tommy got himself a cup of punch. Kimberly and Jason both came over to get some, also. ''Hi, Tommy. How are you?'' She asked breezily.
Tommy smiled a forced smile. ''I`m doing OK, actually. Look, Kim, can I talk to you?''
''Sure, Tommy. I`m your friend. You can tell me anything.'' She told him, brushing a lock of caramel colored hair behind her ear. ''Jason, hon, can you excuse us a minute?'' She gave him a kiss before he walked off.
''Look, Kim, I think that I made a mistake breaking things off. I still love you.'' He paused. ''But, I`ve noticed that you look so happy with Jason. And I`ve never seen you look so beautiful. So if you don`t want to come back to me, I understand.'' He said, looking into her eyes.
''Oh, Tommy, I`m sorry. But you`re right. I`m very happy with Jason. And there`s actually something between us. Tommy, I know you didn`t find someone else. There wasn`t any chemistry for you. But it`s OK, it lead me to Jason. I`ll always love you like a brother.'' She gave him a hug, then went to join Jason.
He nodded. She`d never danced with her feet off the ground when she`d been with him. She`d never looked at him like that. And she`d never held him that tight. No, she didn`t. But like the song said: he`d seen it now.
''Oh I never saw that look in your eyes
And I never had you hold me that tight
And I never saw you dance
with your feet off the ground
Oh but I see it now
I never saw you dance
with your feet off the ground
Oh, but I see it now.''
