Disclaimer: This is the fifth story in From the Radio. The song, Who Needs Pictures, is by Brad Paisley, and not mine. You don't have to read the other stories in this series to read this one. This one in which Kimberly dies, and Jason turns to this song to help him grieve. But I just wanted to use this song in a story, so here it went! I hope ya'll like it!
Who Needs Pictures
By Julia
Kimberly Ann Scott was dead. They only had been married a year. Jason couldn't believe it. He tried to go on with his life, but it was hard. They had been in love for years, since they were twelve years old. They both had been twenty years old. She had crashed her car, not far from their house. She had lost control of the car. He was glad she hadn't been pregnant, they'd been trying. He would have felt even more horrible if he had lost his child, too. But it had been six months, and he could still smell her perfume, still see her sitting with him, at the kitchen table, laughing at one of his jokes. He turned on his Brad Paisley CD, he needed some music. He hit shuffle, and track number 3 began to play.
''There's an old Kodak camera
In my dresser drawer
And I ran across it just this afternoon
And I realized that
I don't ever use it anymore
Fact last time I did,
I think it was with you

When we were down in Cozumel
We had the whole beach to ourselves
And it's crazy now to think
that it's all there on that film
And I could take it to the store
To be developed but what for
I can still see everything just fine
Who needs pictures,
with a memory like mine...''
Jason's grief hit him like a rock. This song brought back all of the memories of Kim, but he didn't stop it. He wanted to remember her. The way she smiled, the way she laughed, the way her hair fell into her eyes at every opportunity. She had been the sweetest, kindest, most beautiful girl he'd ever known in his life. He had never known anyone else that knew him as well as she did. He sighed as he sank onto his bed, awash in old memories.....
Standing there I couldn't help
but think about
Everything that might be on that roll
I think it even has another trip we took
I guess that must have been
at least three years ago

We were down in Baton Rouge
And there wasn't much to do
So we drove into New Orleans
Every afternoon and I swear
that you would think
It was only yesterday
'Cause I can still see everything just fine
Who needs pictures
With a memory like mine...''
Jason sighed. He was remembering the time he and Kimberly had gone on one of their many dates their senior year. They were on Cemetery Hill, the highest point in all of Angel Grove. They had the best time, of course, but what made this date memorable was that this was the day that Jason proposed. She had said yes, of course, and they had lived happily after that, but not forever. Not now that she was gone. He would love no one else the rest of his life. She had been the only girl he'd ever love. And now, she was with the angels. But that's alright. He would see her again, one day.
''Somewhere in my closet there's a cardboard box
just sitting on a shelf
It's full of faded memories and it's been there
ever since the night you left

Oh, just forgotten photographs
To remind me of the past
Oh but I can still see everything just fine
Who needs pictures
with a memory like mine
Yeah, who needs pictures
With a memory like mine....''
