Nico should have been prepared. But he wasn't. At least know he knows he can run away from the world and find Solace in Will's embrace
Nico stared at the window, tears building up in his eyes. He wiped them away angrily.
No. I am over him
No matter how much he tried to convince himself, the tears still fell.
In the restaurant across the street, Percy stood on one knee, smiling brightly at the gray-eyed blonde. He reached into his coat pocket, and pulled out a blue velvet box embedded with seashells.
He couldn't see Annabeth's face, but he could tell that she was speechless, probably reduced to tears. She nodded vigorously. Accepting the ring, Annabeth pulled him up, hugging him tightly. People crowded around them, cheering and clapping, cooing over the young couple's love.
Percy and Nico's eyes locked. The son of Poseidon offered a small smile, then returned his attention back to his fiancee.
Nico knew he shouldn't torture himself like this, but he should have been prepared for this day. Ever since Gaea's defeat, they've been practically inseparable. Everyone knew the day was coming, but Nico thought he was over Percy Jackson, that he was okay with this. Nico was over the stupid son of Poseidon. For gods' sake he was dating someone else.
Over him or not, Percy was his first love and it still hurts.
Percy was still freaked out about Nico and he could tell. Whenever he'd see the son of Hades approach, he would always kiss Annabeth or show some form of PDA.
Nico turned away, running into the shadows like he's always had. The shadows were his friends, where he'll be accepted.
This wasn't the Underworld. No, it was the infirmary in Camp Half-blood. His thoughts must have wandered to the son of Apollo
Will Solace stared at him, wearing jeans, flip flops, and a concerned expression. "Nico?" He asked, setting down the clip board he was writing on. "What's wrong? I thought I told you no more shadow travel."
But the look in Nico's eyes explained it all. Automatically, he opened his arms with no questions.
Within a second, Nico was reduced to tears, sobbing into Will's sculpted chest. Will soothed him, murmuring encouraging words. "You know you don't have to torture yourself like that, Nico."
Nico mumbled an incomprehensible answer into Will's chest. This time he wasn't even following Percy. This time he was just walking down the street and found them. Sure, he had waited and watched like some creeper, but still.
"I'm there for you Nico. You know that."
He did. He will always be able to hide from the world in Will's embrace. Will was his solace from the world, from Percy. Will was the only like in Nico's growing darkness inside.
Will was the complete opposite of Percy. He was smart, hot, clumsy, radiant, annoyingly persistent, and overall a good person. Not like Percy wasn't all those things, it was just that Will fell into another category.
He had to stop comparing the two. And that was when Nico realized how much better Will was than Percy. Will wasn't a hero of Olympus. He wasn't some god sent from the heavens.
No. He was Will Solace. He was not perfect, and he was definitely not Percy, and that's why Nico loved him.
Oh my gods. He loved him. Nico di Angelo was in love with Will Solace.
His heart sped up as he looked up at Will, tears stopping. He opened his mouth, trying to speak, but the words stuck to his throat.
Before Nico could even say something, Will leaned in and kissed him tenderly. "I love you, too, Nico di Angelo."
