Disclaimer; This is the seventh story in From the Radio. They don't take long to write, so this is the third one I've written in the last few hours. But the song, Not A Day Goes By, by Lonestar, isn't mine. And neither are the characters. So read on!
Not A Day Goes By
By Julia
Tommy Oliver was thinking of his old girlfriend, Katherine Hilliard. The two of them hadn't been able to stay together in the end. He had really loved her. But she had decided to go to London, and he didn't want to go with her. He was a country radio disc jockey here in Angel Grove. He liked his job, and he still got to see all of his old friends, so he figured life was good, except for the fact that he still loved Katherine. ''Here's Lonestar, with their hit, Not A Day Goes By.'' He said.
Got a picture of you I carry in my heart
Close my eyes to see it when the world gets dark
Got a memory of you I carry in my soul
I wrap it close around me when the nights get cold
If you asked me how I'm doin', I'd say just fine
But the truth is, baby, if you could read my mind

Not a day goes by that I don't think of you
After all this time you're still with me it's true
Somehow you remain locked so deep inside
Baby baby, oh baby, not a day goes by

I still wait for the phone in the middle of the night
Thinkin' you might call me if your
dreams don't turn out right
And it still amazes me that I lie here in the dark
Wishin' you were next to me, your head against my heart
If you asked me how I'm doin', I'd say just fine
But the truth is baby, if you could read my mind

Not a day goes by that I don't think of you
After all this time you're still with me it's true
Somehow you remain locked so deep inside
Baby baby, oh baby, not a day goes by

Minutes turn to hours, and hours to days
Seems it's been forever that I've felt this way

Not a day goes by that I don't think of you
After all this time you're still with me it's true
Somehow you remain locked so deep inside
Baby baby, oh baby, not a day goes by
Tommy came back on. ''That was Lonestar, with Not A Day Goes By. I'm Tommy Oliver, and now we go to commercial, but when we come back, we'll play Tracey Lawrence, Bryan White, and Meredith Edwards, on your hometown station, WSKI, Down Home Country.''
He slid back from his desk and let the commercials play. He hadn't liked this music as a youth, but now he was twenty-five and really getting into it. Especially the stuff of the early nineties. His shift ended soon, and his relief would take over. He almost hated going home. He loved working. He got to listen to great music for his job.
In about an hour, he had finished up and was heading home. When he got there, there were messages on his machine. He played them back.
''Hey, Tommy, it's Jason. Call me back, 'cuz me and Kim are planning a barbecue. Everybody'll be here. And the kids really wanna see their Uncle Tommy. Talk at ya later.'' The next was from Katherine. Tommy's jaw dropped. ''Hello? Tommy? I guess you're not home. I figured you wouldn't be. I was just letting you know that I'm moving my ballet school to Angel Grove. London isn't working out anymore, and there's a building that I can buy near the Youth Center. So we'll talk, when I get there, OK?''
He couldn't hardly believe it. Kat was coming home! Maybe they'd get a second chance at love...................
