Kimberly Hart was sitting on a hill in Angel Grove Park. Her shoulder-length caramel colored hair was blowing in the wind. She was wearing a simple light pink summer dress. On her feet were sensible sandals, and her hair was pulled back by barrettes, Scarlett O`Hara style. She looked eighteen instead of her twenty. But Jason, her boyfriend of eight years, had asked her to wear what she`d worn on their first date of their junior year in high school. Why, she had no idea, but she did as he asked. Usually when Jason asked her to do something for a date, it turned out to be something good.
She was surprised when she heard music come from somewhere. She saw Michael Peterson, one of Jason`s favorite country singers, stroll from the shadows. He began to sing, and Kimberly gasped. She knew what Jason was doing! He was going to ask her to marry him!
''I did everything I could
to get you here tonight
without telling you why

Jason walked out from behind a tree as Michael stopped strumming for a moment. Jason grinned, pulling a ring from his pocket. ''Michael, start right at the chorus.''
Michael nodded and began singing again.

Kimberly`s eyes were wet with tears by the time Michael had finished singing. She let the tears stream as Jason knelt by her. He sang the chorus again by himself, and she was shocked at how well Jason could sing. She`d known him since they were babies, and she had been dating him since they were twelve, and she didn`t know this! But as he finished, he held out a ring. It was gorgeous. A simple pink stone sat in the middle, surrounded by little diamonds. She wiped her eyes as Jason held the ring out. No words were said, she just nodded and Jason slid the ring onto her finger. Then they kissed, long and passionately. Michael just smiled and began strumming the guitar softly.
It was a May night, and everything was just perfect, as Kimberly and Jason celebrated their engagement.
