Stars
Man how he missed the stars while he was in DC. Sure if you got far enough out, say to the pentagon, you could see a few , Orion's belt , maybe the big dipper, Just barely enough to remind you that they really are there.
At first he fully intended to sell his house, but the housing market was so bad he decide to hold off. And well, here he was, he had gone to the SGC to preform an inspection. Now he was home. He grabbed a beer from the fridge and went out to the back porch and his favorite chair. He just sat there like he always did when he felt the need to relax from a hard day or to just be alone. Then as he stared up at the sky it hit him. It had been over a month since he had seen that brilliant glimmer. Stars. Thousands of stars.
Sure on occasion when he was still the leader of SG1 they had been stuck on some random planet in some alien prison, in a cave, or in mortal peril, but then he was among them. He realized how detached he had become from his old life. Living in DC, he couldn't even see the place that he had spent 8 years of his life exploring. I was just this orange, gray-black color.
That's what you get for being promoted and trying to look out for the best interest of your people. You loose part of it. That world.
Maybe that was why so many of those collars at the Pentagon couldn't understand how important the Stargate program was. How could they appreciate a world that they could barely see from afar.
"Ugh" Jack groaned "That desk job is starting to get to me. I'm thinking too much." Jack got out of his chair, stretched, and headed to word the house. "Hmm... I wonder if Danny Boy is up..."
Please R&R -- Tell me what you think. Should I do anything with this or just leave it as a ficlet?
