Autumn signs
The wind swept the grain in a dry and sunny autumn day. Harvesting works had already started, but these fields were still intact. Between the fields there was a path along which the Lady walked and at the same time glanced at the fields. She was returning home after visiting a farm to inspect the family's wife.
The previous week she had heard news of the poor state of the mistress after a difficult birth, and this information had given the lady some concern. The mistress was a skillful dyer and a handicraft worker whose services she had used frequently and wanted to continue to do so if she wanted something. The Lady had decided to go to meet her and give her some medicaments although another healer had already visited the farm. To Ladys fortune, the strength of mistress had improved and it seemed that the Lady could continue to order her works
The mistress was amazed at the Ladys arrival and regretted that she could not offer her repayment for the potions. The Lady had asked to take a few grain from the fields on the way home to which the mistress had just laughed and then demanded that the next time she needed something she would not charge her. Lady said she would not hear that, but repeated the request for grain.
Now the lady stopped and examined the oats and took a few straw and repeated this on the other side in a wheat field. With these grains she continued her journey home.
Later in the afternoon as the weather continued to favor, Lady asked her son for a small forest trip and promised him a job. She handed a small basket to her son and asked him to pick up the most beautiful tree leaves he could find. As the boy did his job, Lady picked up on her own basket some chanterelles and a huge boletus . When the boy had found the most beautiful leaves, the duo left home.
On their premises , the lady walked through the garden and collected a few apples, plums and gooseberries in the same basket with mushrooms. The boy was eating plums with delight and was annoyed when his mother recalled what happened last time when he ate too many of the same delicacies. The boy rubbed his stomach a few times and stopped eating. When they came out of the garden and approached the house, the lady saw a ranger who was clearly ready for a departure. "Are you leaving for Minas Tirith? Can you wait a moment longer?"
Faramir sat at his desk in his apartment and had just poored himself a drink when the servant announced ranger's request for speech. The Prince told the man to let him come and asked immediately how Ithilien faired . Ranger gave his report and finally handed Faramir a basket. "Your wife asked to bring you this." Ranger left and Faramir opened the basket and took a note in his hand. He glanced around the contents of the basket for a moment before he started reading the message.
The dearest Prince
Since it seems that your visit to Minas Tirith is stretching even further, I fear you will not see the autumn of Ithilien. I am afraid that all harvest has already been made and the plants have ceased to come next time you arrive at your home. Here is a review of what we now have: the grain is ripe and of good quality, the garden has sweet fruits and berries. There are moderately good mushrooms in the forest and I asked your son to collect the most colorful leaves for you to see because I'm afraid of you will lose the sight of the color spectrum this year.
We miss you. I'm afraid that even I might wither away if you don't come home soon.
Yours
Eowyn.
