A great part of teaching is learning to understand your subjects. At least, that's what Tezuka tells himself he's doing as he watches Echizen's face intently, trying to perceive the slight changes in his expression as he decides his next move.
The fact is that Tezuka already knows all the movements of Ryoma's face by heart, the narrowing eyes, the slight furrowing of his eyebrows, the twitching of the corners of his mouth.
He knows Ryoma's expressions inside out, replays them in his mind, paints them with his thoughts in the ceiling of his room at night, into the palm of his hand at breakfast, on the windowpanes and wooden desks in class. He can never see them enough.
He knows the smirk playing over the softly pink lips which the last time he saw it appeared when they found Karupin tearing a hole in one of Ryoma's father's magazines.
He knows the way Ryoma's eyes widen as he opens his mouth wider to the sweep of Tezuka's tongue, the way they clench shut against the sun as his cap tumbles to the ground.
He knows all of them, but the picture he paints the most is the slow easy smile gracing Ryoma's lips as he burrows bonelessly into the tangle of sheets, limbs and soft bedding.
Tomorrow, he decides, tomorrow I will see it.
