Turned to Dust
We laughed and played games,
But that all turned to dust.
We ran wild and free,
But that too turned to dust.
Everything we once knew,
Turned to dust the moment
We dreamed of being older,
When we dreamed of driving,
College, the life ahead of us.
We lost sight of our childhood
And grew up too fast.
We lost sight of what it meant to
Play, what it meant to dream.
We lost what we once knew for
What they knew.
Wouldn't it be nice if we were older?
We would say, not knowing that we would
Want to be younger when we
Were older.
Our parents tell us to grow up,
We have, we grew from the little
Five year old who had nightmares,
From the eleven year old who wanted
To join the family at Hogwarts
We grew into men and women before
Our minds were ready.
Our minds dream of what we
Dreamt about.
We wish we were younger,
We grew older,
But our minds, dreams, imagination
Did not follow.
Our childhoods turned to dust.
Before we were ready.
