A/N: Hi. I'm Alexandra. This is my first fic. It's about a girl called Alex, Professor McGonagall's daughter. She's not a witch, but she has to come to Hogwarts after she runs away from her abusive father. She's based completely on myself, I hope you like this story. Anyway, this is kind of a pre-chapter. It's going to invole one day before Alex runs away, and her adventure after she does. Please be a responsible reader and review!

Chapter 1 - Why do you hate me?

Alex glared at her her reflection and ran her finger across a bruise on her cheek. It ached when she touched it. She sighed and pulled out her makeup to cover her face. After she was done, she brushed her dyed neon-blue hair and pulled it up in a clippie-comb.
"Alex! Where the hell are you?!" A voice bellowed from down the hall. Alex sighed and went to face her father. She stumbled down the trashy hall into the living room.
' Oh, shit......' Alex thought frightenedly as she saw the knife in her fathers' hand.
" You didn't clean the dishes." Was the rough, grating reply to Alexs' presense. Alex looked down at her feet, not daring to say a word. She was scared out of her mind. Her father had never made her bleed before. There was no way out of this punishment.
"Come here." Alex's father said threateningly.
Alex stood still, too frightened to move.
"NOW!" He bellowed. He marched over to her and slashed from the knee to the ankle. Alex moaned and sunk to the ground. She heard footsteps leading out the door, and the car screeching down the asphalt. She reached out and touched her leg, and felt the sticky red blood. She sat up slowly and examined the cut. It was pretty deep. She crawled to the bathroom and wrapped her leg tenderly in gauze and tied it securely.
Alex promptly tried to stand and walked to her room. She lay down in her bed, thinking about her mother.
'Oh, papa,' Alex thought, ' Why do you hate me?'
