McGonagall held the Sorting hat in her hand and looked out over the first years. It was a new generation and it was fascinating to see. It had been twelve years since the end of the war and she had refused to give up her position as the sorter even if she was Headmistress. Her new deputy was seemingly annoyed by this but said nothing as not to offend the easily angered woman.
McGonagall was losing her patience with age, it would seem unlike most people as they grow she started out with a lot of patience which slowly dissolved over time.
The first years in front of her were nervous, as all first years always were. They were sweet and bright and she was happy to see that there was a red head in the line. The girls features reminding her of a certain students.
The next generation of Weasley.
She had of course attended the wedding. And sent them a card saying Congratulations. Took you long enough. And of course they hadn't the faintest idea what she had meant.
There were other familiar looking children in the crowd. A dark lank haired girl that looked like Pansy Parkinson in miniature. Scowling and holding her head high in superiority. There was a sharp intelligent looking child which reminded her of Vincent Crabbe and Millicent Bulstrode, the boy seemed to have been able to flaunt his basically non-existence beauty enough to make him look like a model.
A startling change of events.
And there were also two children holding hands in the line. Both seemed to be cautious and relaxed at the same time. A peculiar sight. One had a flowing head of blonde hair, almost white, with piercing green eyes.
Green?
And the other had dark shaggy hair with grey eyes.
What?
And they were... holding hands. And they were... twins. And they were...
Familiar.
McGonagall knew they had to be Potter's children. But who was his wife? Who had he married? He certainly hadn't heard anything.
She realised she had been staring and cleared her throat in slight embarrassment as she read down the list. Children came and went sitting at the stool and to her surprise Lavender Weasley made it into Hufflepuff and Jeremy Crabbe made it into Ravenclaw.
Dolores Parkinson of course made it into Slytherin, with which she simply smiled.
But what had been an utter shock was when Jasmine Malfoy-Potter and James Malfoy-Potter made it into Griffindor.
They were Malfoys!
And McGonagall determined that she had to find out what had happened.
She held the slight hope that perhaps Draco Malfoy had had a distant cousin?
…
The two sat, staring at her in curiosity. Jasmine sat grinning like a fool, looking around the Headmaster's office in wonder, her chest puffed out proudly, but at the same time her nervousness showing through with her tight grip on her brother's hands. James sat composed in the seat, his head tilted slightly to the side in contemplation, but barely hidden mirth showing on his lips and his feet tapping the chair below him menacingly.
McGonagall stared for a while before she remembered who she was.
She cleared her throat.
"Ms. Malfoy-Potter and Mr. Malfoy-Potter, may I ask who your parents are."
They grinned. Jasmine spoke first.
"Are parents are-"
"Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy."
She took a breath, her head tilting to the side in confusion. McGonagall didn't say anything so James spoke up,
"Dad said this might happen-"
"But we expected at-"
"Least a day before-"
"We were called up here."
She took another breath.
"And how did your parents get together?"
The twins said at the same time,
"It was love at first sight!"
The Headmistress quirked an eyebrow. Really? Love at first sight? There hadn't been fights and punches and duels and spells and Potter Stinks buttons and You're a Death Eater accusations and FIGHTNG ON THE OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE WAR!
Nothing showed on her face.
Quite Slytherin of her.
She gestured for them to continue. Jasmine begun this time,
"Well it started-"
"A month before they-"
"Went to Hogwarts."
"They met in a robes shop-"
"And Papa was ever so charming-"
"And instantly they-"
"Knew they loved each other."
McGonagall said,
"There were in fact many fights at Hogwarts between them."
The twins seemed lost for words. Gaping open-mouthed like fish at one another. A silent conversation seeming to pass between the two before they relaxed. James said knowingly,
"They told us you-"
"Would lie to us."
"But don't worry-"
"We don't hold it-"
"Against you."
And with that they both stood and left the office leaving her at a loss.
What?
