Mei walked throught the streets of Metra, admiring the modern and futuristic design of all the buildings around her. It was art, in Mei's eyes.
Still.
Mei felt a pang of homesickness. She missed her home dearly... This had all happened just a few days ago.

Mei lived by herself in a small house in a town named Salasia. It used to be one of the most grandest places on the face of the earth... Until a few years ago, of course.
A few years ago, humans had ransacked the town and killed all of the people living there, calling them monsters and evil spirits. Mei, who was only 12 at the time, managed to survive by escaping and hiding in the nearby forest. When she returned... Everyone was gone. It had taken her months to pull herself together, and she had seriously considered suicide.
But in the end, she decided that wouldn't do any good. Her parents wouldn't want that. No, she decided on revenge. Revenge against those theives that had killed her parents and destroyed her life, and since then she'd waited patiently for an oppurtunity to present itself.
She had no idea that the oppurtunity was coming so soon.
Mei heard a knock on the door. "Coming..." She muttered, walking slowly to the door.
She unlocked it and swung the door open. There was a beautiful woman standing on her porch. She had a sort of noble air; it made others feel inferior. Mei hated that feeling.
"What kind of freak are you?" She asked. The woman was wearing very strange clothes, not to mention a futuristic-looking visor that was covering her eyes. It was indeed strange around this town.
The woman glared at her.
"I am the beautifull and powerfull princess of Metra, Miira!" The woman announced.
"Yeah. Whatever. I have better things to do than listen to some... What's that?" Mei noticed the envelope in the woman's hand. It looked like... It couldn't be.
"It's a tournament invitation... But, considering you DO have better things to do..."
"Wait!" Mei exclaimed, "I-I didn't mean it... Could I please see it?" The woman raised her eyebrows, but shrugged and handed it to Mei. Mei opened it up.
It was. Mei had always dreamed of entering a tournament... meeting new people, fighting against others, trying to stay alive... It all seemed so exciting! Mei's un-bandaged eye glittered as she read the words on the paper.
'A secret prize, huh?' Mei wondered what it was. She was determined, now.
"As it says in the envelope," The woman(Mei refused to call her by her name, seeing that as a friendly gesture) said, "This is a tournament. And you have been selected to participate along with fifteen others in a battle for the grand prize. So, what do you say?"
Mei pretended to think about it for awhile, but she already knew her answer.
"Sure."
