I had an urge to write a BenAlicia fic, and this is what came of it. Read and review please!
She could find no place more comfortable then where she was now; wrapped warmly in Bens jacket, sitting curled up in his lap with the tv on in the background. Half empty pizza boxes were left by the wayside, forgotten, next to two empty wine glasses. The only light was from the tv, bathing everything in a soft glow. Neither of them really payed much attention to what was on tv or the noises of the city outside. They were completely absorbed in eachothers presence, savoring every moment together because they knew it could be their last.Galactus was coming to destroy Earth in five days, and so far Reed hadn't come up with any way to stop him. Only the Silver Surfer would hold the information they needed to save themselves. They would be leaving the following morning for Europe, which was where the Surfer was, to track him and capture him. Ben knew he had to tell Alicia eventually- she deserved to know. It was when he came to Alicias apartment to pick her up for a date that he broke the news.
"So...this is the last time we'll ever see eachother, if you can't stop him? If the world- if the world really ends?" she asked, her eyes misting over with tears of grief and shock.
"Yes," he said softly, hanging his head. "it is." She bit her bottom lip, wiping tears from her cheek.
"Well then," she sniffed, smiling despite the horrible news. "should we cancel our dinner reservation and order in a pizza instead? I think I'd rather be at home with you then go anywhere else tonight." He smiled. Alicia was so brave. He admired that about her. Despite any situation that came her way, she looked forward to better things.
"Yeah," he agreed with a chuckle. "sounds good to me."
Alicia rested her head on his shoulder, absentmindedly tracing her fingers in small circles on Bens chest. She sighed contently.
"Something wrong?" Ben asked, an arm encircling her. She could hear his voice rumbling in his chest as he spoke. Smiling, she looked up at him and said,
"Absolutely nothing. ...It's strange- existence as we know it will end in less then a week, but I'm fine. My only fear is that I won't be able to be with you again." The circles stopped. "That you'll be leaving to try and save us all from this fate..." Bens heart wrenched in sadness and guilt.
"Alicia," he murmured comfortingly. Alicia blushed. She loved it when he spoke to her so gently. "I would give anything to be with you, you know I would. But, seeing you die would be the worst thing that could ever happen to me. If there's a chance I can prevent that, I need to take it."
"I know...but why does it have to be you?"
"I wish I knew babe."
One of her hands drifted up to touch his face, running along every feature, every curve, every niche, memorizing him. Ben felt his heart beat a little bit faster and his strength disappear; her touch always made him weak.
"Just promise me something, okay?" she finally whispered.
"Yeah?" She shifted herself to look at him.
"Promise you'll come back to me." He didn't reply, but just leaned forward and kissed her, holding her close.
When they finally broke apart, she smiled and said, "Fair enough."
