A World Re-Born

"Each friend represents a new world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born." --Anais Nin

It was a long ten years for the sulking half-demon Inuyasha. A decade had passed since the Shikon No Tama fell from the face of the Earth, and demon attacks and activities decreased tremendously. That and they were on the verge of becoming extinct. Inuyasha knew Shippo and Sesshoumaru were still among the living, so he heard. As for himself, Inuyasha felt like everyday of his life was nothing but a waste, like life was not worth living alone and idle. He contemplated on ending this lonesome, boredom span that was his life, but was stopped short by an alarming sound.

Laughter.

His dog ears twitched and pinpointed to where the care-free melody came from. He followed and what stood before him, knee-deep in a sea of lilies, was a woman. The sun had shown the deep red tints in her dark hair, which was captivating and pleasing to his eyes. Speaking of, the lively color and shape of her eyes were unique, almost familiar.

It was when the woman spotted him, while he was stupidly staring at her, she blinked for a moment and her lips curled into a happy smile. Bells rang in Inuyasha's ears as the pieces in his mind came together. That woman is the self-same female that traveled with his older brother.

Rin.

Inuyasha remembered her name being mentioned during a conversation with Kagome, within the topic whether Sesshoumaru hated humans or not. How come Rin is by his side all the time then? Kagome had asked a decade ago. It was a question that nagged at the half-demon now as he gazed upon the woman who was all grown-up and beautiful.

"Inuyasha-sama!"

He watched as the girl broke into a dash towards him and barreled herself into his arms. "Rin had wondered about you."

Me? Why me? Inuyasha thought curiously. While his mind was miles away, Rin had taken his clawed hand and led him into the flower field. The soothing fragrance brought at the half-demon back to reality and found himself at Rin's mercy.

"Aw," she gushed, her eyes sparkling with adoration. "Inuyasha-sama looks so pretty!"

The flower wreath that had been placed upon his head annoyed Inuyasha and he sneered at her, but alas, the girl was too distracted to notice. Rin adjusted the wreath so it was propped by his dog ears and smiled at the acomplishment.

"There, all done!" she declared softly and then laughed at Inuyasha's sour expression. "At least you don't complain like Jaken-sama does. Jaken-sama always ripped up all of Rin's pretty wreaths," she explained with a sad look and frown. "It's nothing but a memory now; Sesshoumaru-sama and Jaken-sama left me at a village when Rin got older. Rin is not happy."

It bothered him to see her that way. He didn't know why, but to see her that way made him want to bash the toad on the head until he was brain-dead and skin his brother's hide with Tetsusaiga. He mentally yelled at himself to get a grip and that the girl was not worth fussing over. With that thought passed, he got up and started to leave.

Crunch-crunch, crunch-crunch

The sound of leaves crunching made his dog ears twitch in reaction. He stopped so abruptly, something bumped into his back and fell to the ground with a soft 'thud'. He turned to see Rin on the ground, rubbing her back in slight grimace. Her eyes met his and that was the end of it. He offered her his hand and she took it.
