I was thinking one day about how I feel all safe and relaxed when I'm sleeping with my head on someone's lap, and how I like having someone else's head in my lap as they sleep, and thinking about how safe and relaxed I felt, I started thinking about the inherent trust that must come with working as closely with a team as the genin teams in Naruto do.

This fic occurs somewhere between the fight against Zabuza and Haku and when Itachi shows up to try to capture Naruto, while Sasuke is still starting to heal and develop bonds. I imagine they went to stay in a hotel, and there was only one room avaliable, with one large futon and one small one, so Kakshi took the small futon and Sasuke, Naruto and Sakura took the other. It's not intended to be shippy at all, more of a character development and exploration.

Sasuke felt safe.

For the first time since his clan had been massacred, he felt perfectly safe, even with the discomfort of the position he was currently in.

Either one of his teammates were snuggled into his sides, a head of pink tucked away neatly near his armpit, and a thick mop of blonde and its owner's upper body sprawled across his chest. Having Sakura's knees pressed into his hip from being curled into a ball was uncomfortable, as was the restricted breathing from the weight on his chest and the heat from the two bodies on either side.

But for some reason, he didn't want to move.

He supposed that they had worked together so much that his body was beginning to trust them inherently. He continued to remain limp with leftover sleep, feeling the two bodies pressed against his own. Of course, he told himself, he was going to push them away when they started to wake up.

His yukata, supplied by the hotel they were staying at, had happily ridden up and shifted during his sleep, and he was glad for the blankets covering them, god only knows what the other's kimono looked like with all their shifting around. The result was that Naruto's face was pressed to his bare chest between the open panels, while Sakura's head was still firmly planted in fabric. Kakashi wasn't there to tease him about the position either, all signs being that he was still asleep in the smaller futon.

Sasuke felt himself slipping slowly back into sleep in the comforting warmth of the futon he was sharing with the two closest people in his life.

He'd push them off later. Right now it was too much of a hassle.
