Rain pounded harshly against the pavement.
Usually, there would be a cheery girl dancing in the rain.
Not today.
He died. And she couldn't do anything. Even visit her home. She often felt useless, but this moment topped the charts.
She dragged her feet, moving at the pace of a turtle.
She stopped. Slowly, she lifted her head as if greeting the Sakura tree, albeit not with her usual expression, but instead solemnly.
She could taste the rain.
She just stood there, motionless.
Why wasn't she crying?
Probably because she was completely dehydrated. Not a drop of water left in her body.
She choked slightly. And then, she finally managed to break down in sobs.
Why?
She wondered in pain.
Why did you leave me? Why did you have to go?
"No one else… -hiccup- is left to take care of me. To hold me. To… love me. I'm all… alone. Forever."
Natsume decided to then reveal himself. It was painful to see her like this.
"That's not true."
She gasped slightly and slowly maneuvered herself to face him.
She hiccuped again. She shook her head.
"It is." She managed to whisper in reply. "Who else is there?"
"… Hotaru, Ruka, Yuu, Anna, Nonoko, Koko, Kitsuneme, Sumire, the teachers, and everyone else."
She stared at him. Or through him, it seemed, due to her almost lifeless gaze. She was quite disappointed with his answer.
When she noticed he wasn't going to say any more, she prompted him to continue.
"What about you?"
His face remained unchanged.
"You will never be alone…" I wouldn't dream of allowing it. I'll be here forever. Somehow.
She sighed. She had a feeling that he wouldn't give a direct answer.
"Why?" she asked.
"Why what?"
"Why did grandpa leave me?" she questioned, more tears spilling, blending with the rain.
"He didn't leave you." Came his simple statement.
She eyed him curiously. Afraid he was just trying to raise her hopes. Although, she doubted he would be that way in this kind of situation. When things boiled down and matters became bad and painful, Natsume would be a nice guy.
"Wherever he is, he's watching over you. He'll always be with you."
"How do you know?"
"Love conquers all."
One day, I will be by your side, and remain there.
Forever.

Eek, so please review. I need to know. Should I stick to comedy/parody or is my angst/tragedy/romance/drama or whatever-this-fic-genre-is better?
By the way, he grandpa didn't necessarily die. He could've gone missing or something. I don't know. I'll leave that up to you to decide.
