The dagger fell, cutting the air and releasing a single note. At times the note broke, but would return, exactly the same. It stabbed at nothing, falling towards a body. The body caught it and the dagger buried itself greedily into the soft flesh. The note hung in the air for a final moment.
Silence was met by the falling and gasp of the body. There was not a scream from the bloodied red lips. Downwards, falling, hitting the floor, the body's eyes watched the darkness that had a darker cloud forming around it as the eyes became blind. The world…life…for the very last time…they would reveal the murderer.
A single footstep echoed in the silent world of the dying. Then pain and life rushed back suddenly, ripping the soul from the comforting, sweeping death. A scream hit the air, holding the lost note of the dagger. The murderer stood over the body with a smile. Red eyes shown out in the clouding black. The face came closer, the only thing the eyes could perceive and the smile widened sadistically. The scream faltered.
The dagger was pulled out slowly, affecting the pitch of the scream and the eyes darkened further. A single word broke out of the scream.
"Die!"
The hand of the body twitched and pulled a string. Silence stole over the night as light erupted, disturbing its blanket of darkness that faded like burning threads of a sheet. The murderer's smile was erased in the blinding light and the eyes only hung for a moment before fading. The sound came in a roar as death claimed the soul of the body on the floor. The destruction and lack of control in the blast crumbled the walls and they fell, covering the shattering glass with dust and ash, burying itself in the body. The body burned to ash and scattered in the supernatural strength of the flames and white light. A human body, pure and impure, the sinful and the victim in one, from ash to ashes it did return.
The light fell like a mantle of water, suddenly with droplets of white hanging for moments in the eyes. The murderer stood, the body swarming with blood and darkness and hundreds of laughing eyes. Eyes that watched the face of death with humor as it failed again to claim the murder's life.
A laugh shook the fragile and broken world where death hung from the ruins and smoke billowed into the sky. Nothing touched the sky or the ground with life. Only the dead remained. The flames danced, devouring nothing but existing. The murder's laughing body reformed and he stared down at the ash with a wild smile. Fangs shown in the darkness under crimson eyes and black hair. The devil watched another death flee from the destroyed body. He laughed at the absurdity in the life that had taken others but fell as easily as they had, and his eyes danced with the flames.
The devil had made the evil one seem pure and innocent in death. The only mercy permitted by death at the hands of the devil.
