This story is just something random I thought up... I don't own 101 Dalmatians... Only Zev and Wren!

Chapter One: Escape

"Hush Zev! They'll hear us!" she said worriedly. She shrank back against the wall to avoid being seen by the bad ones. Zev growled at them silently as he led Wren along the shadow of the wall.

"Wren… don't worry, they're to stupid to even notice a dog if they slapped them in the face!" he laughed bravely. Zev crept around Wren and motioned with his small white tail for her to come. She followed, her short white fur was grey in the dark and light from behind the boxes, her spots appearing even more black.

Zev wasn't her brother or her sibling in any way. He was her protector. Wren and Zev had been taken with the rest of the puppies from the pet shops, he had met little Wren in the pet shop. Now they were in some huge house that smelled horrible and looked terrible. They had ridden in some kind of giant box in the chilly fall. Now there was snow outside, Wren could see the white fluffy stuff falling outside the window. Her mother had told her about snow… about how wonderfully cold it was, how she would play in it with their father when they were younger.

Zev didn't have any memories of his parents, no memories of anything like that. He only remembered the pet shop and then the cold bouncing of the box. He had met Wren in that box, she had been huddled in the corner, crying for her mother. He hadn't understood her terror, or why she was crying. Zev had found it in himself to comfort her, no understanding why. Wren was a small Dalmatian, with one patch on her muzzle and one black ear. She had pretty green eyes and a short little white tail tipped with black.

Zev had two black ears and one black paw, his blue eyes showed his determination as he led Wren to a small hole in the wall. They crept about while all the others slept, he didn't know what was going to happen, all he knew was he had to get Wren out and away.

As he came up to the hole, he stuck his head through to see if the coast was clear. Seeing it was dark in the hallway, Zev pulled his head back into the room and motioned for Wren to follow. She nuzzled him calmly and bounced through swiftly, Zev followed.

As they padded through the cold mansion, Wren stayed close to Zev. He was much bigger than her and sheltered Wren from most of the cold. Blue eyes scanning the house for a way out, Zev spotted a cracked window and brushed Wren with his short tail and showed her the window. He helped her to climb through by pushing her up. He leapt up behind her and onto the windowsill.

"Don't worry Wren… I'll protect you," said Zev in a hushed tone. "No matter the cost…"
