(A/N: This is a one shot I wrote about the plane explosion scene from Kate's POV. I'm not sure if it turned out the way I was meaning to, but let me know what you think! Reviews are always appreciated)
Kate was excited. Now, this was something that did not happen very often. Kate was not a person who liked to show their emotions, even in the most extreme circumstances. She thought of herself- and others did too- as calm, cool, and collected. Nothing fazed Kate Moreau. Or so she thought.
Because right now, she was excited almost to the point in which she wanted to start frantically pacing. Kate was barely managing to hold herself together. Had it really been only a few days back, when she finally learned that she and Neal would be back together again? It had seemed so long since she had seen him. At least, when they were both relaxed and just…in love.
She did love him, really, she did. And he most definitely loved her. Although Kate knew Peter Burke had always doubted this to the point where he had said it to her face, she knew that a cold, heartless FBI agent like him didn't know anything. Well, not anything about love at any rate.
But she could put all of the doubt and uncertainty aside now.
Because now, Kate Moreau was in the plane. Yes, she was on a Boeing 787 on this cloudy afternoon.
Another wave of joy crashed through her as she remembered his gorgeous, strikingly blue eyes. This had been what drew her to him in the first place.
She saw a lean figure crossing the pavement, coming towards her. She waved a gloved hand in welcome, and saw him respond. She saw the blue eyes once again…
Then, another figure joined Neal. It was him. Peter. What was he doing? Why couldn't he just leave Neal alone and let them be? Kate was eager for her and Neal to begin their new lives together, with a fresh start.
It looked as though the two were having some sort of argument. Kate couldn't really tell from her place in the plane.
But she knew that in the end, Neal would join her. Their relationship assured her of that. Besides she couldn't wait to tell him that-
The flames. They ripped through everything, coursing through her every vein. A sudden pressure, a blinding pain, approaching darkness. She wanted to escape so badly. But she couldn't see, couldn't think, couldn't move. She was trapped in the inferno, with no way out. There were screams in the distance, and she thought she could hear her name. But she knew she was not getting off of that plane. "Neal, I love you…" she murmured, as the life seeped out of her once hopeful body.
And those were the last words that Kate Moreau ever spoke.
